"Umm, not really, I guess," Dustin answered after a second. "No one would hire you anyway." He realized how that sounded a moment later and amended. "I mean no one here. They have policies on. . . you know." He gestured toward his face, as if that was a clear reference to Shi's piercings. Dustin wouldn't know expensive clothes if they whacked him upside the head, and he'd never seen anyone older and affluent who wore their hair like that, or had metal everywhere, so he more or less figured Shi for just a college student or something. "I just figured since you were hanging out back here. You can put your name in front if you want to eat. . ."
It had been a dumb assumption to make, Dustin thought now. But he still didn't know why Shi was standing there. The accent at least didn't throw him. It was just one more way Shi was different, and that fit him, given his appearance. "Sorry," he added, just because Shi might have thought he looked like he was hard up for a job or the like? Dustin had no idea.
