Cassie gave Stanley's hand a firm squeeze. She felt like she had something to prove, that she was every bit as tough as necessary. She stepped back from the edge of the building, looking down at her feet. The rubber boots were kind of silly, she noted, but they got the job done.
"The only way I'll ever get better with my ability is to use it. I know that I could hurt people, but, so far it's just stuff... And I know that isn't right either, but..." Cassie's voice trailed off, biting down on her lip, a bit frustrated. "I can do this. I have to do this. Nobody else is going to."
She ran her hands through her long blonde hair, frowning. Cassie was the sort of kid that didn't take no for an answer. She had set her heart on something and she was going to do it. One day she was going to be a beloved hero, she was determined. She knew it wouldn't be easy and she was aware of the risks, but she didn't care. The benefits would outweigh the deteriments in the end.
"They'll be fine. I'm going to do this. I know I can. I'll try harder, maybe if I practice," She paused, charging a photon blast in her right hand and quickly catching it and absorbing it with her left. "I can be everything these people need."
She looked back towards him, obviously thinking about something. He wasn't a bad person, she determined, he just seemed so apprehensive about his powers. At least he wasn't going to accidentally destroy a building or blast someone's arm off.
"Just because you don't want to use your abilities to help people doesn't mean everyone else is that afraid." Cassie snapped. She immediately felt bad about what she said, rapidly looking back down at her feet.
