The woman on the bench was not the sort of woman Teagan would have ever dared approach, normally. She looked too put-together. There was something stylish and superior about her. Something that probably had a lot to do with the pretty blonde hair, expensive clothes and excellent figure. Teagan tended to be cowed by women like that, the beautiful people, and mostly tried to stay out of their way.
But today had been a particularly bad day, and Teagan had been walking fast through the park in an attempt to stave off tears. Everything had been fine not three hours ago, but now she found herself in desperate need of a cigarette. The blonde who was lighting up on the bench definitely had the right idea. She hated to beg, but the little money that was in her wallet was for bus fare, and Teagan was fairly certain she was going to be overdrawn after the utilities bill went through.
Besides, the worst that could happen was that the woman would say "no." So Teagan brushed herself off so as not to look quite so ragged, and took a few breaths before approaching the bench that the woman was sitting on. She wanted to look casual, and not like someone who was fixing to cry out of frustration. Just a normal girl out on a normal day. "Hey," she began, hopefully, in what she figured was as good a start as any. "Do you happen to have a spare smoke?"
