Richard paused and privately cursed. You could trust the press to come out with ridiculous statements they wanted you to answer, and it was enough to make him wish he had some sort of psychic powers and could have read the man's mind. He didn't reply for a moment longer, placing the man, and offered him a small, wane smile.
"Mr Lane, good to see you. As you well know, with all research there is the possibility that once published, others will use it against their fellow humans. Innocent and brilliant research into the structure of the atom resulted in the production of the atom bomb, as well as the wonders of nuclear power and also our understanding of chemical reactions. Experiments focusing on aerodynamics and thermodynamics was the first step into the production of the sorts of hand-weapons we see today, but these are also used for protection of our citizens by our police force, and by our military to guard against terrorist threats to peace in the wider world."
He let that sink in. "The research we are planning to undertake here over the next few years, and it will be a long process, will give us a better understanding of our biology, for us and those with Super powers and abilities. In future it may be possible to remove and even recreate whatever factors change the biology of these Supers, especially those that we have seen reported in the news with powers of healing. Imagine the difference harnessing that power could have on those people diagnosed with terminal illnesses, those that receive fatal injuries in road accidents. These powers, if harness and fully understood, could completely revolutionise our daily lives, and I for one believe the positive benefits outweigh the risks."
Richard held Mr Lane's gaze for a moment longer, before flashing a bright smile as he looked about the crowded room. "Any more questions?"
