He took another deep breath and his heart began to race, he had planned on this being one of the reactions Moretti could take to the news..but he had never really prepared himself to deal with it. Foolish mistake, his eyes widened just a bit before he looked back to the desk and gathered his thoughts before looking back up at him. Retrieving a folded slip of paper from his jacket, he set it on the desk and for once commended himself on putting something to paper. It was the formula for one of the prototype drugs that Moretti himself used to supplement his stamina, though neither Stanley knew that or Moretti himself could really decipher all of the symbols on the page.
"That is the chemical equation I found during my investigation, you can have the science department check it and they'll back my claim of it being unregulated by state or federal departments. As for the authorities, I had no proof of the illegal cloning project and I didn't want to drag the company through the media unnecessarily."
He let out a slow sigh, he should have known this was how things would go down and now he had to only choose whether to use his powers to escape or allow himself to be taken to jail. He had committed a crime, so the most likely option would be the latter and so he decided to just come clean with the rest of it. His voice dropping ever-so-slightly to that of a man who had accepted a fate that no one wanted, his eyes remaining on his hands for now..lost in thought even while he spoke.
"But, it seems like it happened anyway. I can't really apologize concisely for the losses I've caused, but when a group of corrupt guards has guns pointed at you..self-defense is your only option. If the project would have continued, there would have been an army of genetically-altered killers on the loose and your name attached to them. I did what I thought was best for the city and for the company at the time. I understand if you decide not to believe me, sir. But after two years, I don't think someone would come back just to lie..I've come back to help Axis City. Just as you want to do. I imagine you'd like to call the police now."
He let out his breath in more of a huff now, the weight was off his shoulders and now he could at least deal with the consequences clearly. He leaned back in the chair a bit and regarded Moretti with those sharp eyes, just observing him now as he had put his fate basically in the man's hands. Hundreds of people had been affected negatively by his actions, but had he saved more? It was a question he would mull over and weigh out as the days spilled out before him.
