Richard smiled, enjoying the other's sincerity as they spoke. But he also liked the admiring looks the other was casting him, and the quiet praise for his literary knowledge. And he liked that even more than the sincerity, taking it all on board and letting his ego swell slightly. Perhaps this evening wasn’t such a waste after all, even if the cocktails were over-priced and every woman within a five metre radius had asked him if he had any plans to get married yet.
A paralegal, eh? And not a PA to a lawyer. A damn could one too, Richard guessed, considering again the man’s appearance and intelligence. A PA who knew exactly what their boss needed and knew exactly what the terms meant would be very useful, and be paid very well in return. “I imagine that’s a very interesting line of work. Very consuming though.” He said, knowing how hard it was sometimes not to take work home with you, especially when it surrounded you.
“As for me? Well, I dabble in genetics and DNA. I work for the AC Research Trust, but well, I’m thinking of maybe striking out and doing my own research again.” He said airily, “Investigating the genetics of supers and try to find a cure for genetic mutations that result in super powers, that sort of thing.” It was impressive he knew, which was why he liked to talk about it, especially in a way that made it seem that his work was simple and unimportant.
