May 10: After the joust who: Genna Stark, ? when: May 10, after the joust where: courtyard near the tower of the Hand. rating: PG-13 status: Open
Genna was dancing as she made her way back toward her family's new quarters. Septa Mariyan was a little ways ahead, lecturing Brandon about proper behavior of a Lord's son and why it was not a good thing to wager money. Some older boys had gotten him to do it- Mother was giong to hang him by his toes when she found out about it, but that was a pale amusment compared to watching the young King knock so many people off their horses... and then he'd ridden over to Princess Elia and given her a real crown of flowers- gemstones and bright brilliant silver, like something out of a song of old Valyria. It was like living in a song then when Jaers offered her the crown.
Genna stopped and looked around as they entered a garden full of flowers. She waited a few extra breaths for Septa Mariyan and her brother to round a corner then reached out and picked a flower for herself. This was a red one, but it looked better with her white dress, she decided. The embroidery was a pretty gray but the red flower stood out better than a blue one would, and Jaers' colors were red and black too.
She looked up from the flower she'd been twirling in her hands and realized with a horrible jolt that she couldn't hear her Septa or her brother anymore. Oh no. Genna took a deep breath- not so long ago she might have cried but she wouldn't do that now. Even if she was tired and even if she wasn't used to being by herself after the days and days and days on the road... The Red Keep was her home and she could see the Tower of the Hand over the garden wall... and she knew the way back to the list field, even though Jaers wouldn't be there now.
Genna smiled to herself. It would be a more pleasant walk without her stupid brother or Septa anyway. She stepped back onto the path and continued the dance she'd been making up on the way there.
