The bitch was good, pointing out exactly what her status was in court. Kaelyn knew that pointed comment would go straight to her heart, even if Vianna had built a wall as thick as the ice of the north around it. Somehow, as much as she tormented Kaelyn, her cousin was the one person who could dig just right. Her eyes flashed with a hint of a storm, and then she covered it with a smile.
“You are so right, Kaelyn. What would we all do here without your guiding hand. After all, I know my father ensured you were trained to be a great lady.”
Vianna waited as they spoke about Emberlei, Dayne’s other younger sister. “I do hope she recovers as well. I’d hate to think one so young could be so sick.” Turning back to Kaelyn, she smiled, “Perhaps, then, as Lady of the Castle, you might show me around? This place is rather big and I wouldn’t want to get lost.”
