Scott and I did some research - mostly looking at layers in the atmosphere, and changes in the molecules. Molecules are always shifting, and there's always a greater number of them the higher you go in the atmosphere, but based on output from the spectrometer and microplate readers? Molecules, density, pressure - it's all changing rapidly. Far too rapidly.

Almost like there's set to be another 'splitting off' when it comes to the universe? Not saying it's that exactly, but this particular universe is shaken. And I'm uncertain as to why, but I assume other people might have more input when it comes to that part. We can also look to insect life, but the ants basically confirm everything I said - the chemical signals they emit to each other say to relocate their hoard elsewhere.

"That's not good" seems like an understatement. So, physics-wise, our splinter universe might possibly splinter again. That your guys' ants are getting ready to pack up and ship out is the least comforting sign, ever. Good work, you two. Thanks for looking into it.

I early activated some mini-RT propulsion sensors, from a satellite S.I. launched six months ago. It was a personal science project. They haven't gotten outside our solar system, but we'll have a little heads up if something comes our way. Like something tripping the motion alarm.

Where's our resident wizard.

Of course. I'm sorry we don't have more concrete evidence to point to what exactly will happen, but either way it doesn't seem good. It seems universe-wide.

A heads up would be good. Let me know if you need anything else from your resident insects.

Stephen went somewhere, like, off the grid? Want me to ask Wong? We're pretty friendly tea buddies.

Oh nuh uh! Don't be sorry about anything. This is the most evidence we've ever gotten so far. As long as there's no signs of a collapse, I'll take it as a win. We'd need Jane in on it, with the bendy space numbers. If you network that data in, and I'll talk at Bruce, we might get a better idea if or when our bubble might pop.

Yeah, we'll get some warning if outer space is coming to eat our faces off. Whatever. We got this.

If you're monitoring those insects nonstop, I think they're a great warning system too. Let us know if your ant buddies start standing on the corners of their ant colonies, with tiny white signs saying: Repent! The end of the world is near!

Looks like the man of the hour showed up, finally. If you see Wong, tell him he's inviting to my wedding. Even if he doesn't know why. And hopefully there's even a wedding to go to.

I'll send you everything we have, raw data and the handy charts we put together showing the shifts and changes. I'm interested to see what Jane saw too, checking the space channel.

We're always listening to the ants - we can send them other places too, to pick up on chatter elsewhere. I'll let you know if they start selling 'I Survived the Apocalypse and All I Got Was This Coffee Mug' sorts of memorabilia.

Sure thing, I'll tell him. A wedding is actually a nice thing to look forward to.

I know what I'll be doing today. There's nothing I love more than raw data and charts. I hope at least one is of the pie variety.

I will never look at ants the same way after this. Makes up for that one time that Pepper dragged me out on a picnic and they marched all over our lunch.

You know scientists are stressed when they start giving the ants backstory. Next comes jazz hands and writing musical numbers.

Apparently, the other me owed one to Wong. So it's the least I can do here, too. Hopefully we get there, or Pepper is gonna go Kill Bill bridezilla on the universe.

I think I can make actual pie happen, just not me baking it since I suck at domestic duties. What's your favorite kind of pie?

Next thing you know you'll start naming them too, like Scott does.

I don't blame Pepper for that either. She's probably been ready to marry you for awhile, and it's bad news to deprive a woman of her big day. Whatever genocidal space Hitler has up his sleeve, it doesn't compare to that wrath.

I could bake a pie. Easy peasy. Pepper would tell you that I can't, but no one should listen to her. Cooking is like culinary science. It's all ratios. I'm great at ratios.

And hey, there's nothing wrong with naming stuff. I named my robots and each nanite cluster configuration in my new suit. Stuff like Sparky, and Rev, and Punchy, and Vroom...oh, and Fonzie. I can't say what Fonzie does. It's a secret.

Good point.

Plan A: shore up, science the shit out of everything, get ready for a big fight.

Plan B: get Pep a yellow track suit and a katana.

Cherry pie, huh? Noted. And I totally believe that you can bake. Totally.

You also probably need to eat anyway, so sustenance and data soon coming in your direction.

Yep! I can bake. Like a bad ass. Or, you know, pie from a bakery and data dumps works just fine? But only if you guys are having some too.

You rock. I'm looking forward to pouring over the numbers. And even more after reading what Grumblebore has to say about that dimensional tear.

Yikes.

Definitely physics based, so I'm sure the resident physicists will have a lot to think about, just like you quantum mechanics will.

Honestly, I like that cloak so much I'd wine and dine the thing if I wasn't already with someone.

I do enjoy a good quantum-based brain teaser.

I'm right here. I had a mess to clean up. Hope, the research you and Scott have done is sound.

Changes are coming. I've seen the tear on the astral plane. That's not a place where you can take equipment or getting readings, since it's metaphysical and a place that only the spirit can travel through. The tear in space and time between our two dimensions is significant and it is getting worse. And that's why Hope and Scott are now able to get molecular readings, when nothing showed up before.

I've done what I can to stave it off and staunch the flow of another universe's negative energy impacting ours. For as long as possible.

That won't last forever.

Oh, good. I was afraid you disappeared and I'd have to crack open the quantum realm and go after you and that happy-go-lucky cloak.

So you're saying that there's some kind of tear about to rip open and you've been trying to keep it closed? Can we help you with that, or?

My mind went on an extended vacation in a fugue state. I'm still dealing with the jet lag from it.

Yes, I am saying that. I've been shielding it with sigils but they're tearing down every day. The problem is - scientifically or esoterically - that I'm not sure this dimensional tear can be stopped now that it's started. Wong and the other sorcerers have been helping with that.

That doesn't mean that you and the other scientists on the network can't find a way to stabilize future ones. I can only speak from the magic side of the spectrum. I doubt my qualifications as a neurosurgeon can help with quantum mechanics.

That sounds like a lot. Better spike that tea with whiskey.

Well, luckily I know quantum mechanics pretty well. My father has been researching the quantum realm for years - I'll ask him to give me everything he has, granted, it's very little since it's kind of an untapped resource as you know. But there might be a way to use it to tunnel into alternate realities, or even back in time. One way to stop the dimensional tear might be to figure out what caused it, go back, and prevent it from ever happening in the now.

I considered it, but my current line of work requires sobriety.

That's something to consider and worth looking into. But, because we are a carbon copy of a prime universe and still closely intertwined due to this universe's inherent destabilization, too much manipulation of time could potentially cause collapse. It's why I've hesitated doing that. So far.

The other problem is that this rift didn't open from a weakness our end, like it did when "Sharknado" happened. It tore through, from theirs.

When this is all over, I'll buy you a beer. Like in a pizza joint, with garlic knots on the side.

I know, it's dangerous to finagle with time. But maybe it could work, I don't know. I wouldn't go for it unless we were totally sure, naturally.

Tore through? So something on 'the other side' has the ability to barrel through the multiverse like that?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]doctor__strange
2018-05-24 08:58 pm UTC (link)
If there's an end to it? Sure. Why not. I'll never say no to garlic knots.

I know first hand that it's dangerous, which is why I still caution against it. This is why they should've put the warnings about branches in time, unstable dimensional openings, spatial paradoxes and time loops, before the spells. Not after.

I think there's time to figure out what we're able to do, with science and magic. Emphasis on I think. Rather, I hope there is.

Uh, tore through explains the violence of it, and why I didn't pinpoint it on the astral plane until afterward. Tore might not be the right word.

I think of it like us being one bubble stuck underneath another. Considering this dimension is the closest copy to the bubble that's touching theirs? Yes. There's constant surface tension between the two, ready to pop, and it's trying to merge into one bubble to stabilize itself. But it can't quite manage it.

You can even metaphorically equate it to a dam. What happened in their universe bled over like a floodgate was opened, so that the proverbial dam didn't break. That dam being our universe and their universe is the flood water.

If it hadn't leaked over, we would have been at risk of this universe collapsing entirely when that 'dam' broke. At least it would be a painless, instantaneous death.

In the meantime, we have our own genocidal alien to contend with. So we're getting it on two fronts, instead of the one that our prime universe counterparts are dealing with.

There will be. There's always an end to everything, somewhere. If we're dead we can have garlic knots in the afterlife.

It's much easier to contend with villain of the week types. When we risk fucking up the world even more than the genocidal alien does, it doesn't bode well. But I also think we're all conditioned to believe the good guys always win - sometimes we have to lose to win. Maybe this is one of those times, but I hope not either.

We'll keep plugging away at it. I know I'm definitely not giving up - Scott and me are here to help.

If the afterlife has garlic knots or a decent deli, it's not going to be such a bad way to spend eternity.

Because that's where we are now. We know about the genocidal alien that's out there, but we still run the risk of royally screwing ourselves over by tweaking something too much one way or the other. It might be a risk we have to take, but not one taken lightly. Which you pointed out. I think even Stark would realize the implications.

It's good not to give up, either. It might take some inventive thinking on everyone's parts.

...and I'm sorry I didn't text or message back before. Focusing became an ongoing issue.

Thanks, Hope. The least I can do is let the science team know what we're dealing with. At least from an esoteric perspective.

Doctor, is there some way we can try and trap this dude in one of those lost pockets in time. One you wouldn’t have to worry about fixing. One where he can’t get out into anyone’s dimension.

And if that can’t work, guys, Team Science, what about making him sub atomic and trapping him in the quantum realm?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]punches

Those are both good ideas. If he goes subatomic, he's not coming out of it anytime soon - we all know that.

It doesn’t even have to be clean. If we can pocket shrink even parts of him..it’ll rip him apart. I can’t imagine it felt very good for Cross.

If trapping him in a time pocket was an option before, I would have done it. And trapping him in the quantum realm might be difficult considering he has the gauntlet by this point and at least one stone giving him the power to decimate an entire planet on a whim.

From what I've gathered, the pieces I've managed to unravel so far, he has entire armies at his disposal. That he can send in to subjugate worlds, before he ever shows up to order a purge of half the population. Or, at least, I saw him do that to quite a few Earths. It wasn't pretty.

So that might also be...problematic. Catching him alone to trap him.

He's a meticulous foe, with godlike power.

[info]burgled
2018-05-26 01:34 am UTC (link)
Well he's coming this way either way, right? So we can't just sit on our hands, Doc.

We kinda have an army too. If Hope and I could help make enough syrum..we could shrink them down.

Maybe if I practiced enough, I could get so big, I could just step on him. Or...go in his nose....and then...

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]doctor__strange
2018-05-26 06:58 am UTC (link)
In comparison, no. We do not have an army.

We can't stop a planetary take over, since we can't be everywhere on a planet at the same time. It's statistically impossible, even pushing the limits of my capabilities.

And...uhh...I seem to remember in one instance, he's pulled a moon out of the sky, busted it into pieces and dropped it down on someone. I don't think you can get big enough to stop that if he did it to you.

That doesn't mean we're helpless, but it will take more than trying to take on the forces that Thanos has at his disposal. Head on, I mean.

There is not going to be an easy fix, any time soon. It will take working in conjunction, on several fronts.
