Captain Rogers, I don't want to pry, but how are you feeling?

Any changes in your condition? Having consulted with a friend in biochem, I am wondering if running D10 with a bolus of levocarnitine over 4-6 hours might decrease the metabolic stress that your body must be going through, non lactated ringers, given their impact on mitochondrial function would probably be a good idea. Is that something you might be willing to try? I believe the risk of adverse effect would be quite low.

I have been wondering... are you feeling any better? If so, I have found a small shop capable of brewing a proper cup of tea and making lovely scones. If you're feeling up to venturing out, perhaps we could go. If not, I'd be happy to have my driver go. Let me know if you're interested.

You will pleased to know that I have passed my written exam for fixed wing aircraft instrument flying. I have also managed to land a plane in such a way that it can take off again.

As requested, I've also expedited the process for obtaining licensure within the State of New York. They were quite helpful. The provisional license arrived yesterday.

Any progress on the helmet?

I listened to a podcast by your friend, Brene. She's very American. Are you planning another Ted talk?

As a geneticist, I have been researching de novo mutations resulting in biochemical changes that impact the human body's abilities for many years. While I cannot say whether or not this research will result in a cure for any of you personally, it may result in information that could stabilize your condition, give insight into any future medical issues that may arise as a result of it and it may lead to us being able to help others in the future. If you are interested in participating, please let me know. Participation would mean around 30-45 minutes of your time so that I could gather a brief history and explain the details of participating in a research study. If, after that discussion, you are interested in participating, I would ask that you have a blood draw at the lab. Obviously, it's entirely voluntary and any information gathered will be kept in the strictest confidence according to HIPAA and GDPR.

No change, though I have been checking my blood every day and noticed some increased levels today in [something] that has left me baffled. I can send you the chart I've been keeping of my various levels since this whole thing started.

I'm willing to try anything at this point.

Please do. I'm curious if it's a mildly elevated ammonia.

Let's set that up then.

I'll have to get Steve to stop by and give me another sample so I can compare.

Sure, when is good for you?

That sounds like an excellent idea.

I've already put the orders in, so staff should be able to start it whenever you'd like. Would you like company while it runs?

Give me an hour and I'll get some reading together. If you want to sit with me for a while, I certainly won't object though.

No offense, because I know you're friends with Dr. Xavier and I know and trust him, but considering what we went through on Genosha, why should we trust you with something like that?

I am extremely sorry for what you went through there. There is no obligation for you to participate in anything if it's not something you feel safe doing. If there is any

With that said, unlike the monster in Genosha, I'm a medical professional. You may view my CURRICULUM VITAE here. Like all other medical professional, if I were to do anything inappropriate or outside the expected norms of practice, you would have many options from making a complaint against my license to hiring counsel.

If your concern is directed at something I have done that indicates I present a threat to your safety or if I have offended you, please let me know so that I can address the issue and respect any boundaries you have around my behavior.

Of course you haven't offended me. I don't even know you. That's my point. I really don't know anyone here and I'm having to put my trust in a lot of strangers right now. At least I've seen the Avengers on the news.

I understand that you are having to put your trust in a lot of people, I can only imagine how difficult that is for you.

I've given you my professional credentials. If you would like to get to know me personally, perhaps Charles could make an introduction.

Again, you have no obligation to participate in anyway and I will obviously respect your boundaries around that.

I don't want you to feel afraid and again, you are under no obligation to speak with me if it makes you nervous. You have the right to feel safe generally, but in particular with medical professionals. I want you to be comfortable.

At the same time, we know that the man who has caused you so much pain controlled and manipulated with brute force and terror in order to further his research.

Forgive me if the rest of this comes off as a lecture. That is not my intent and their will not be a quiz at the end.

The first thing young doctors are taught after "wash your hand, you filthy animals is: "First, do no harm'"

Part of do no harm is avoiding dual relationships. I won't cite chapter and verse, but as a researcher it's my responsibility to insure that I do not create a friendship with someone and who then may feel a social obligation to participate in research or follow a course of treatment that I recommend .

From a personal standpoint, I understand trust can take a very long time to build. Rest assured, Charles can tell you that it takes me quite a long time to let down my guard. However, on an ethical level, the trust that comes with a personal relationship can create a power imbalance, it's that power imbalance that I'm obligated to protect you from.

In this situation, if there is a person who I have a personal relationship with, I will be asking either Dr. Banner or Dr. Palmer to take history and provide information about consent, etc because the risk, however small, that they might someday feel that I had used the personal relationship to influence their choices about medical care is simply too great for me to feel ethically comfortable with. In essence, I would be acting just as your captor did, albeit with more civility.

I would be happy to meet with you and discuss this further, if you'd like. If there were to come a time when my research in this area were to end, I would very much like to get to know you personally, presuming you have time to spend with an old hag like myself.

I am pleased. I have every confidence that you will be an excellent pilot, as you are at everything you have ever tried.

Excellent. How goes setting up our research? I am very concerned that we are so behind Essex/Milbury.

The EEG biofeedback was a beneficial addition. I have not yet exploded my brain.

She is quite. All that vulnerability and talking about her most embarrassing stories. It's barely civilized. I'm not certain I'm ready to go fully public with my new brain power.

Charles, your flattery is best spent elsewhere. We both know that there is one area of expertise I tried and failed in an utterly humiliating and spectacular manner.

To be frank, I do not know if it will be possible for me to contribute in terms of understanding what Essex was attempting, the possible future medical complications, etc.. As you know, that's why I had Dr. Kincaid outline the scope of the research, the risks vs. benefits etc.... If it turns out, that I recommend a course of treatment you know that he will again participate. While this is my area of expertise and I feel I could contribute, as you know this is a traumatized group of people. What they may need from me in order to feel comfortable participating may not be possible, and while I am honored that you trust me in this area, I can not jeopardize my entire career and I will not allow you or any of the others to be in the position where their vulnerability is exploited again- albeit with more niceties. I'm sure you understand.

I'm glad to hear that your brain continues to function. Do you feel that it's increased your range?

While I'm sure she is very nice, I hope you will refrain from introductions. I believe that my shame can remain a private matter between me and the village priest.

I would say that failure belongs to someone else.

I do understand. Do you think that I am being naive to imagine we should be turning this trauma into the gift that it could be? None of these young people seem interested in using their powers. In becoming heroes. And I'm an old man.

I am able to identify Ms. Pryde and Agent Wisdom from the mansion. So the first trial was successful, I believe.

You underwent genetic manipulation by a sadist sociopath. I do not know if what was done could be having other impacts on you, whether or not further mutation could be triggered by other factors or if you now have metabolic or other physiological changes that could be addressed now in order to improve your health. As an example, people with diabetes can be diabetic for a very long time before they are diagnosed. During that time, high blood sugars are doing damage to their bodies. If there is something like that going on, it would be better for you if you were to find out now, before you get sick.

We don't know if there are immunological changes or changes in how your blood clots that change how you should get medical care in the future- For example, for most people, if they get dehydrated, lactated ringers are a very good treatment. But for people whose mitochondria don't function well, lactated ringers can lead to something called metabolic acidosis. Which can kill you.

It is my belief that the more knowledge people have about their health, the more they are able to make choices about their health.

This would be like a physical?

Re: Escapee Filter

This would first be us sitting down and talking about about what may have been done on a genetic level. You do not need to share anything about your personal experience that you are not comfortable with. Then, we'd talk about what benefits you might gain from having someone like me look at test results. If after having that conversation, you decided that you wanted more information about how the genetic manipulation might have had an impact on your body, then you decide what happens next. If you were given a medical exam when you arrived, the lab might already have reports and samples. If that is true, you would have the option of either authorizing me to look at those reports and run further tests on what samples they have.

For a variety of reasons, sometimes people are more comfortable getting a new set of labs. If that's the case, we would arrange that. As far as taking your blood pressure, listening to your heart and lungs, the kinds of things that are done in a physical, again, that's up to you. It could be helpful, but if you'd rather not, you have that right.

If you agreed to give a blood sample, and then changed your mind a minute before the tech was going to draw--- The tech stops. If you decide you want a physical and half way through, you aren't comfortable.... whether it's me or another medical professional in this building, we are going to stop immediately.

If you give a blood sample, and then later regret it you can ask that all your information be purged from the system. I have had patients who were willing to give a blood sample or a release of records, but then didn't want to know anything that I found out as a result. I have had patients who wanted me to go over every lab value with them and tell them not only what I know to be factually true about that information, but also what I think it might means. Both are valid decisions.

The goal is to help you..
