Rules subject to change when new issues occur or if clarification is needed. Check back often!
Notice: No copyright infringement intended. All characters owned or co-opted by Disney and Marvel. We are non-profit and non-commercial, writing interactive fanfiction as a transformative parody for personal entertainment only.
⮚ NO DRAMA. Do not attempt to circumvent the rules or app process. By joining, you agree to interact with everyone from time to time, no one can be avoided. Anyone deliberately starting IC or OOC drama by griefing (harassing, provoking, or undermining player lines to spoil other's entertainment) will be removed. If you got beef, this isn't the place for your BBQ.
⮚ WE'RE CASUAL GAMERS. We don't play daily or post day-to-day activity. We have real life to deal with. We peck away at our own pace, and it can take a two or three weeks to finish game-wide plot scenes.
⮚ JOINING. All on-screen or in-print castmates need a heads up on their contact posts before holding. Players can be reached by clicking icons on the Taken page or emails on the Contact page. We have 3 audition types:
Established players (3+ months) can invite a Sponsored Player. Sponsored players only need 2 public writing samples from any game using the character they are auditioning for. The character is then added immediately. Their sponsor helps them settle in.
Blind Tryouts are a 1 month trial period (1 character only) and must have a 2 paragraph intro piece on their app (prompt is provided!). You don't have to do an intro log. We're looking for adherence to canon history and characterization (MCU or Comic attributes).
Returning Players who left on good terms do not have to audition for any of their dropped characters (if still adoptable). New characters they haven't played before can be added after 2 weeks without an audition piece.
⮚ PICKING UP CHARACTERS. All characters are variants of their universes of origin, and are diverted into the game's copy of the MCU's Earth. We currently don't allow What If variants to enter the game. However, your MCU character can dream about those variants, they simply can't become them. TVA personnel come from the TVA that monitored the sacred timeline (in the Loki series).
Try not to pick up closely linked characters, i.e. original/founding members of the same team. However, if it's a part that's been up for adoption for a long time, any established player can bypass this rule. All mutants and comic characters arrive in a Tower room the same as MCU characters, courtesy of the Multiverse. Villains are mod NPC only. Anti-heroes seeking redemption are adoptable. Use the Dropbox if you don't hear back from current players after 3 days.
⮚ HEADCANON. Discuss any headcanon with fellow players before using it in scenes. Headcanon is only flavor text. It can not overwrite or change past/currently known MCU canon. This is another reason we do not allow What If variations into the game.
⮚ CONTACT INFO. You need a public contact post (comments screened) so others can ask for holds. You need an RP email on the Contact page and access to Google Drive for logs. Discord is optional. We will not use any group chatrooms. We plot by email since not everyone uses the same chat or can be on at the same time to discuss. Do not share f-locked info. Do not accept 📎file attachments. Only use unmasked links to IJ, DW, Imgur, or Google Drive.
⮚ MONTHLY ACTIVITY CHECK starts the 1st of each month and ends the 3rd at midnight (Pacific). The check will consist of 1 instance of activity per character over the last month, and can be either a completed log or narrative OR any network post (email, text, PM). Network needs 5 replies (Original Post counts as 1 for that character). Logs/Threads need to be completed (have a natural sounding ending) and can be a brief scene, with a minimum of 3 replies each character. This check is to discourage characters not being fully utilized (i.e. radio silence or tags left hanging/unanswered) and gamewide plots are to encourage people to interact more than just showing up at the beginning or end of the month, and disappearing inbetween.
⮚ NO MAX CHARACTER LIMIT. You should use your character(s) once a month. Failure to do this means you will not be allowed to pick up additional characters. Popular characters are highly sought after. If unable to use popular characters every month, they will be put up for adoption. Hiatus is not an excuse and is limited:
⮚ HIATUS. If you're here, you're expected to interact! Hiatus is 2 weeks 4 x a year, for a total of 2 months. You can not take all 2 months off at one time. It is for personal emergencies. Use the hiatus sparingly! Post on the Schedule page. A writing partner can post a notice if needed.
⮚ CANON. MCU characters enter the game with all last-known canon on their wiki page. Elderly characters retain full canon memories but arrive in their younger body. Because the multiverse is opened up, characters from Marvel comics ARE NOW ALLOWED. You will be bringing them into a copy of the MCU universe, so it may require some adaptation on your characters part. Previous comic characters (X-men) will eventually learn they are variants of Earth 616. New comic characters can arrive with present canon intact, overwriting this universe's variant (taking their place).
All canon updates happen in dreams, after a series or film and/or can include physical changes to your character. If any characters eventually have canon MCU memories via TV shows or Films, they will be updated after release. MCU players can not ignore what happened in the MCU canon universe! If something happened between MCU castmates and is mentioned in convos, your character will know it.
⮚ FACES & ICONS. MCU characters must use the actor/actress portraying them. All other characters can be changed/recast! Mutants/Comics characters should change a face when/if there's an introduction into the MCU and "blame it on the universe." If a comic character is known to be coming into the MCU, the face must match the actor/actress. Photo manips may be used for physical mutations. Fanart or comic art can be used on logs only, not on the network.
⮚ GAME-WIDE PLOTS have no opt-out because they are meant for everyone to participate. Plots can take 3 weeks to finish, but only cover 1 day/moment of "on-screen" time. Plots are typically organic with GM prompts interjected randomly by the mods with few guidelines. We encourage players to email fellow team partners to work out your tag order. Because plots only represent one moment in time, you can still do log or net posts around the event. If in doubt of an outcome, try to hold off talking about it until later on, when closer to completion. For canon updates or a side note for game-wide plots, narratives with light dialogue (either single or group written) of what your character(s) did are accepted IF they take place in the same month as a gamewide plot.
⮚ OTHER FRANCHISES (FOX or SONY): We are strictly Disney-owned characters (Disney now owns Fox Mutants and Marvel Comics). Co-owned characters in the MCU (Spider-man) are allowed. MCU characters should have screen time, although we accept characters soon arriving in the MCU (see Holds). Comic characters arrive as variants from the comic universe and retain their canon history. If they eventually have a MCU counterpart, they will get those memories via dreams/visions when there is screen time. No Sony-only owned characters, they are not part of the MCU: Venom (source) or Into the Spider-Verse (source).
⮚ NO MULTIPLES. No movie + comic versions at the same time. No face duplicates are allowed (no President Loki). No adult versions of current MCU children. Aging up a MCU child or teen character only happens if the character is shown grown up in a movie or TV show. Timeline Variants (i.e. Classic Loki, Kid Loki) must use their actor faces and retain their canon history.
⮚ TIME is month-by-month. The current year is 2025. Game-wide Plots involve only one specific moment/day in time. Logs can be done around gamewide plots You can mention things that happened in the Plot toward the end of the threading. The calendar days will match ours (i.e., Christmas will fall on our Christmas). We heavily use suspension of disbelief. No need to fuss over fine details.
⮚ LIVING ARRANGEMENTS: While characters are free to roam and start plots anywhere, all characters live in centralized locations to maximize interaction.
⭆ All MCU characters and Mutants live in the New Avengers Tower, offering the most potential for interaction. No exceptions! School-age teenagers live with their parents until they are old enough to move into the Tower. Orphans move in immediately. Characters trying to live elsewhere are transported back to their Tower room instantly. Characters can have vacation homes on Earth, but cannot live in them for longer than 1 week (cumulative) per year. Character vacations can coincide with a player's hiatus.
⭆ Asgardians, Wakandans, & TVA are given Tower apartments but depending on where they're from. But to encourage more of these characters being picked up, they also have an option to live in Wakanda (Wakandans only) or Asgardia (Asgardians only), or the TVA (only if a TVA employee). TVA characters have a Tower apartment for moments when they can't access their TVA timeline. Wakanda and Asgard use magic doors into the Tower. Asgard is Bifrost capable. Asgard has access to internet and cell service courtesy of Stark satellites. Visitors to Wakanda or Asgard are welcome for parties or weekend stays with permission. Asgard is protected by magic & shielding technology. It can only be reached via Bifrost or if a ship has clearance from Valkyrie.
⭆ Masters of the Mystic Arts protect their assigned Sanctum. Dr. Strange watches over the New York Sanctum in Greenwich Village. Wong lives in the Hong Kong Sanctum. No other characters can live here, but they can visit with permission. Doorways connect the three Sanctums in Kamar-Taj. Because they can portal, these characters can be anywhere instantly to meet with others. Sanctums are warded against intruders.
⮚ DROPPED CHARACTER HISTORY. All media or press trail is erased by the universe when a player drops a character. Existing players don't forget past versions. New connections need to be forged if a different player picks them up. Past game history remains in the past, and existing characters should give new players a chance to establish their character.
⮚ ROMANCE & SEX. We don't enforce canon relationships. It's each player's personal choice to stick with a canon ship or not, and they may not be interested in shipping at all. It's up to each player if they want to end a relationship. Respect other's choices and don't pressure them. Anyone pressuring or griefing players over their ships will be removed after one warning. This isn't a game for sexscapades. Romance and relationship building is fine to post. However, Fade To Black (FTB) is preferred for all NSFW sexual content. You're free to write what you want 'off-screen' with a ship partner if they want to, but it doesn't need to be posted here.
⮚ KIDS age month to month. So we aren't overrun by babies, pregnancy takes 9 full months game time. No exceptions. Children are NPCs and can not be adopted or played by another player. Only the parent writer(s) can NPC their child. Anything involving kid(s) in logs must be approved by the parent(s). Characters can not bring kids into warzones or conflict. No adult versions of yet-to-be-born children. If we start to get overrun with babies, we will implement a freeze. Teenage characters already shown in films or movies can be played!
⮚ RATING SYSTEM. -rating:red covers NSFW content: Drug Use, Alcoholism, any Medical Issues or surgical procedures, any descriptive Nudity or Sexual Content, Graphic Violence (gore/bloodshed), descriptive Violent Crime (assault, murder) or Abuse (verbal/physical/emotional), Death and/or Dying. It's your responsibility to watch for red tags.
⮚ NOT EVERYTHING GOES. We are Ages 18+ & Rated M for Mature. No IC/OOC attacks on sexual orientations of a character or their writer. To comply with Federal obscenity laws in the U.S. or issues regarding age of consent, no sexual relations allowed for characters under age 18 in the current MCU universe.
⮚ TRIGGERS. If you have triggers, this might not be the place for you. We recommend a lowkey pan-fandom instead. That said, we do encourage all trigger material to be put under lj-cut and have a warning note. This game involves scientific/medical experimentation (self or otherwise), combat (including combat-related ailments: physical, emotional, mental), characters with known mental disorders, and dealing with character and/or NPC deaths. Having triggers does not mean the group will stop writing triggering material, or that you can opt out of game-wide plots. If you join, you are here to participate. Trigger Warnings can be listed in the subject of a thread post. You can ask a fellow player for a summary if you suspect something may trigger you.
⮚ NO REAL WORLD POLITICS OR EVENTS. No real-life political figures, groups/organizations, or current news events (pandemics, elections, etc.). We do use real-world locations for plot settings. Some of the same military or government organizations existing in our world also exist in the MCU. While the MCU was designed to be similar to Earth as we know it, the same geopolitical issues won't exist the same as they do in our reality. Details and/or history are left vague to not ruin immersion.
