Who: Peter Quill & Darcy Lewis
What: Peter's back
Where: The common room in the tower
When: A couple weeks ago
Warnings references to sex
Status: complete
Peter was sick of the universe’s shenanigans. It was the absolute worse, and that was coming from a guy who was basically a walking shenanigan.
When he blinked and landed up on the tower, he knew that something was amiss. In fact, he had been in the process of potentially getting to squared base (if you have to ask, you aren’t ready for it) with a Threelorian girl, almost ready to get the glornik to the blazz, and now he was on Terra. Boring, stupid, Terra.
Oh well. He’d learned a long time ago not to argue. Instead, he knew what had to be done -- seek out this universe’s Darcy Lewis and get all the deets. Reaching into his pocket, his transmitter now a Stark tech phone, he scrolled through the contacts and frowned a bit. These looked oddly familiar. Hesitating, he opened his gallery and had to give a slow nod and clap to the universe. These were all his nudes. And his nude girls. His many many sandwich nude girls.
Pumping a fist in the air, he let out a happy cry. “Fucking eh! Back to the old prime ish universe! Oh yeah!” That meant he definitely needed Darcy and since he was on Avengers Tower, it was easy enough to find her. She’d be around ...somewhere. And all he had to do was ask Friday, and bam -- there she was.
“Someone looks hot and sexy in this universe, and for once, I’m not looking in a mirror,” he drawled, walking into the room. “How goes it, sweet cheeks? I’m back, baby. The Peter you know and love and sometimes despise and sometimes do dirty things to. Fill me in. What’s new? I apparently was dimension hopping here, without any drugs, which is so lame.”
***
It had been easy enough to make the move from the penthouse to the tower when Tony did. Darcy was worried about him and doing her best to keep an eye on him and keep him from getting himself in too much trouble. It was not an easy job by any means.
She was drinking a cup of coffee in the lounge area of the Tower when she heard a familiar voice that made her put the cup down and jump up in excitement. “Peter Quill! You’re back! And you’re you!” The other Peter had been fine, but he wasn’t this Peter. “Oh my god you have missed so much.”
Where should she even start? Well, a hug was the first step, and she moved close enough to do just that. “So there was another you here for a while. With a Gamora. And a Nebula. Then you all disappeared. Dad and Pepper split so he’s been a handful. Thank god you’re back. You can help me wrangle him.”
What else? She had to try to remember what had happened when. “Did you go to Genosha with us for Thor & Jane’s wedding?” she asked. That felt like so long ago that she couldn’t remember if he’d been there or not.
***
“Thor and Jane finally got married?” He wasn’t sure if he was there either. That’s okay, now he was caught up. “Good for them. I don’t understand why anyone would want to be tied up to someone for the rest of their lives, especially as an immortal but hey, why not.”
He was not going to comment on the whole Gamora thing. Nope. Not at all. The mere mention of her name still caused a very uncomfortable twinge where he presumed his heart was. Would it ever repair? He really had no idea. It was easier and better to ignore. Drink his feelings away. And it sounded like Tony would be doing that too.
“And Tony and Pepper, huh? Well.” Peter didn’t realy have anything to say back to that. That sucked. A lot. He’d always liked Pepper. Maybe they’d get back together. Maybe.
Instead, he picked her coffee cup up and took a sip, frowning a bit. “Frick, this dimension sounds like it got all fubared. Come on, let’s hop into the ship and find a better one. Maybe one with sexier people.”
***
“The sexiest people are here now,” Darcy pointed out, gesturing between them. “Besides, I can’t leave Tony like this.” Especially now that Bruce was gone, he needed someone to make sure he didn’t get arrested or dead. Hopping in the ship and exploring the galaxy did sound like fun though. Maybe in a few weeks. Or months. Whenever Tony got back to something resembling stable.
She wasn’t going to poke more at the Gamora thing, knowing that it was a sore point for him. “So, what have you been up to?” she asked. “Hopefully something more interesting.”
***
Peter couldn’t leave Tony either. He was the closest thing Peter had to a best friend, even if their relationship was really just based on drinking and sandwiches. Actually, that was better than most relationships he had. He cared about the fucker.
“We are sexy,” Peter agreed, reaching out to grab Darcy’s hand and give her a wink. “And I’m fine. Not much. Just cruising the galaxy, doing my thing.” He paused for a moment before rushing through the following sentence: “I was bored. It was lonely. I missed everyone. And you.”
He cleared his throat and dropped her hand quickly. That was more sharing and emotion than he meant to say. Awful. What kind of person was he becoming? “But I’m here now and I guess that’s all that matters. Also, I feel really out of shape, and it was not fun kicking ass without a team. Is it bad that I kinda wish Drax was around? Or even Rocket?” He was again purposefully not mentioning Gamora’s name.
***
Darcy leaned in and kissed his cheek, pointedly ignoring the display of emotion. “Clearly you need to put together a new team,” she said. “I can’t kick ass, but there are plenty of people around here who can.” Now if he needed spreadsheets in space, that she could help with.
“So, does Pops know you’re back? If not, we can get Friday to let him know and arrange an apartment for you. In the meantime, if you want a shower or whatever, you can use my place,” she offered.
***
Did Tony know he was back? Peter assumed that Tony always knew everything, considering all the robot spies he had. “Meh, let Friday tell him. Plus, I guess I should ask him if I even have a place again or not.” He didn’t know, to be honest. And Darcy had a place here at the tower…..interesting. “Soooo in answer to that shower question, yeah, I’m down for that. I could also use some clothes. Something that doesn’t say rugged pirate of the stars … more like a star-lord kinda feel, y’know?”
He grinned.
“And by that I mean no clothes. Naked is good.”
***
Naked was not uncommon for them. Even before they’d become friends with benefits, they occasionally indulged in pantsless hangouts. Not for the first time, she wondered was the hell had been wrong with the previous versions of her who’d gone for Loki over Peter.
“Don’t think I can help you with the clothes, but naked I can do,” she said, putting aside her coffee and taking his hand to lead him to her new place. “Hey, Friday, let Dad know that Peter’s back. And order him some clothes or whatever. Have them delivered to my place.”
***
There was one thing Peter liked, and that was a strong woman who wouldn’t hesitate to kick his ass if need be. And Darcy was definitely that.
“Sounds like we have plans now,” he cooed, tucking his fingers around hers. “Friday, put us on do not disturb. I don’t think Tony wants to bleach his eyes when he sees what I’m about to do to his daughter.”
Oh yeah. It was good to be back.
