Who: Jane and OPEN
What: Jane pops in to NYC
Where: Either her lab or lounge
When: Current
Rating: Green

"Welcome back, Dr. Foster and congratulations on your marriage."

"Thanks, Friday. Been awhile, thought I'd come back and kick the tires. See how Peter has left the place. Parker, not the other one. Boot everything up for me and bring up my most recent data backup?"

"Certainly, Dr. Foster."

Now that she and Thor could both easily and legally step back and forth between New York and New Asgard, Jane had been itching to get into the lab. She worked out of the outbuilding Thor and Loki set up for her and was grateful for it. But sometimes she wanted the big girl equipment.

It just felt good back in the lab. Time zones between New York and New Asgard were always problem. It was only midmorning but she had just a couple hours left to get home. Jane stepped out to the lounge for a coffee while Friday compiled her data. She'd take a break, enjoy the view of the New York skyline. In a bit she'd finish up in the lab, then run out for hot dogs to bring home for dinner before she stepped back through the portal home.

"Ohhhhh," she said, a smile spreading across her face. "I do not know where Vanaheim is but it sounds remote and quiet and low on urban lighting drowning out the stars. Did you camp as in tent or camp as in 'glamping' or whatever it is called?"

"It's one of the nine realms connected by the world's tree," Jane explained. "There's Earth and Asgard and then seven others." She smiled at Shuri's question. "No, not anything like glamping. We had a tent but that was mostly for my sake. Thor would be happy to sleep on the ground."

Shuri just nodded. Doubtless, that explanation made sense to Dr. Foster, but some research would be required later that day. Research on things like 'the nine realms' and 'the world's tree'. She focused on the camping.

"Perhaps a god does not feel little twigs and stones in their backs when they lie on the ground," she said with a grin. "Or being rained upon. I have not camped in a few years, but that was Africa, where there are hunters as well."

"It doesn't rain on Thor unless he wants it to, Jane laughed. "But he's an old warrior and he's used to sleeping wherever he can out his head. I love to camp but I still want a pillow. I used to drive this van I used to have out into the desert, sleep in the back, and skywatch. I'm sure the sky view in Wakanda is just as lovely."

Shuri laughed, too. "Of course it doesn't! God of Thunder, right, moving on..." She nodded about the pillow, because yes, she preferred having one, too. "What part of the world were you in when you had the van? And yes, the sky of Wakanda is incredible. You must visit."

"New Mexico. I did my postdoctoral research in a little town called Puerto Antigua. We actually converted my lab there into a little house. It used to be a service station."

She nodded at the suggestion. "I was in Wakanda very briefly for the fight against Thanos but I'd love to spend more time there."

"I have never been to New Mexico. I take it there are areas of low light pollution for stargazing?" It sounded wonderful, a mobile lab that also had accommodations. "I will have to see if I can rig up something similar. It sounds... peaceful."

At the mention of Thanos, Shuri sighed. "Yes, that was a difficult time, to say the least. I had hoped to remove the stone from Vision's forehead, but there just wasn't enough time and then..." She sighed again. "So many became dust, myself and my brothah included. It is... not the best way to see Wakanda..."

"It wasn’t like that here, in this time-line," Jane said gently. "Some were turned to dust but we were able to recover them fairly quickly. We chose to face down Thanos in Wakanda and we won."

"He is alive," Jane agreed. "I hope you'll see him soon."

"I have heard of this battle, yes," Shuri said softly. She had a sip of her coffee and leaned back in the chair. "It is good that we won without the deaths of Natasha or Mistah Stark or so many others. To know that Thanos has been injured and one of the stones has been destroyed..." Shuri shrugged. "I hope we will not see him again any time soon."

Jane nodded her agreement. "And hey pro tip, since we do have the stones: don't dump hot tea on the reality stone. It really doesn't like that."

Shuri stared at Jane for a beat, just to absorb that statement and to see if she was kidding or not.

"You are joking, right? You spilled tea on the reality stone? Really? What did it do?"

"Technically I didn't spill tea on it, I dumped my tea on it." Jane grimaced. "I was kind of mad at it at the time. O don't think it liked the tea. It got angry and rewrote reality for a bit. There were irate and zombies and a few other things if I remember right."

Shuri tried to stop staring, but gave up when it didn't seem to work.

"You were mad at the teality stone? What did it do to make you dump your tea on it?"

"Fundamentally altered the structure of my blood cells after it went for a ride in my bloodstream for a little while, eventually giving me leukemia."

That was a little dark so Jane added "I'm fine now. Tony's nanobots and Asgardian magic can accomplish a lot."

Shuri really needed to stop staring so she changed her posture and leaned forward in her chair, placing her coffee cup on the table.

"That must have been terrifying," she said. "I am very glad the hear you are well now. And such a break-through for those suffering from leukemia." She smiled a little. "Silver lining and all that. Why did the stone take a ride in your bloodstream? And... how ?"

"I stuck my hand in a rock and it was waiting for a host." It sounded ridiculous and the expression said Jane knew it. "I found an in between during the Convergence. I don't know if you would remember that, you would have been a kid. The alien attack on London?"

Shuri blinked a few times before saying, "That sounds... alarming." Why anyone would stick their hand into a tree was one question, which would be followed by "What trees want hosts?"

She decided not to ask.

"I remember hearing about it on the news," she added, in reference to the Convergence. "I am from 2018, so it was not too long ago that I was a tween."
