SHIELD Staff Meeting 7AM Thurs [OPEN (to SHIELD)]
Nick was in the conference room early, checking his phone and answering email. He had his agenda items on the whiteboard and had already entered the items he needed on it. He wasn't sure which of his agents were even in The City, but he needed to coordinate the response to Tony's initiative with agents in NY and DC. Once they'd discussed it here, he'd be as comfortable as he ever was that it would be handled.

  1. Tony Stark
  2. New York Giant Monsters
  3. Col. Rhodes
  4. Capt. Rogers

There are bagels from the bakery and some of the worst coffee ever in the pot.

[OOC: Please add new items for the meeting as responses to the sub-topics below. I hope this works and I'm sorry to spring the paradigm on you all unexpectedly. If we hate this we can do it differently next time...]

[OOC2: This is open and optional but it might be fun (for us. Staff meetings are never fun for the participants)]

Yesterday Tony Stark visited the Bakery and explained his plan for later today to attempt to rattle the cages of the US Senate subcommittee before whom he's appearing today in hopes of causing the source of the four story monsters that attacked Brookyln Heights to expose themselves.

He'd like us to watch for the signs of that exposure.

Whose got something in place here or in DC to see what he stirs up?

"Since I'll already be working in DC with Coulson, we can keep an ear to the ground on any developments." She flashed a grin at Fury. "And you know me, I always have a network of friends in low places. I'll see what they're noticing or not noticing going on in the wake of the destruction."

It was part of the reason why they took her in. Aside from Clint's different call and Coulson's willingness to deal with the massive headache of the Black Widow coming in from the cold.

Speaking of the Giant Monsters, I'd like to know everything we're doing already on that topic. If Mr. Stark walks into a trap based on his strategy above, we may need to put all our information on the topic together quickly.

What's moving on the Giant Monster Front?

Hope was a busy bee (wasp?), and she liked to keep herself moving - while she spent most of her time working science magic at the Avengers tower these days, she sometimes crossed paths with SHIELD too. After all, her father had done the same (though he certainly hadn't joined the Avengers - that was a laugh), and the new deal was for the two teams to work together closely anyway. So as to prevent any disasters like the one many years back.

Point was, she had info to share at this meeting today. "Bruce and I analyzed some samples from the monster carnage," she spoke up. "It was what we thought, some slipshod scientists trying to recreate the super soldier formula, with a dash of gamma ray influence," she said. "Their attempts obviously didn't pan out so they discarded the failures. Onto a massive amount of people."

Which was carelessness and cruelty in its own right - but whoever had done it (which they still needed to figure out, though all signs pointed to shall we say government influence), they had done it on purpose. They wanted to screw with people.

Nick nodded. "Thank you, Ms. Van Dyne. That's useful info. We'll look for who had worked in that area before." He drummed his fingers on the table. "We should probably have a chat with one Dr. Samuel Sterns." Fury leaned back in his chair.

"I need a status update on Project Mr. Blue, especially the wind-down."

In addition to placing himself in harm's way, Mr. Stark has enlisted Col. Rhodes, to try to dig out information in Washington. We'll want to watch him to see what happens, both for security countermeasures and to round up whatever he stirs up.

Phil sat back, looking thoughtful. "Not that I'm not otherwise useful, we all know that, but we also all know I'm good with information wrangling and assorted connections. Unless you think I'd be better used in a different capacity, I think I might be useful here."

It was up to Fury -- and Bobbi, really -- where to utilize his considerable and varied skill set. But at the same time? They both knew he had absolutely no problem speaking up and making suggestions. In this situation, however, he was also absolutely smart enough to suggest and then sit back, shut up, and wait for a response.

He'd been a junior agent once, after all, and a damn good one at that.

Nick looked over at his right hand woman, who generally did more with the schedules than Nick himself.

"Thank you, Phil. Bobbi, can we spare Special Agent Coulson for a few days? We can juggle priorities if need be."

"I can also provide Rhodey some back up if needed. Or is there some place better that you'd want me?" Natasha said.

It'd been a while since the last SHIELD meeting and she didn't know what else had happened behind the scenes.

"There's always more for you to do than there is of you." Nick looked to Phil. "That's true for everyone in this room. But this giant creature problem is important."

Nick made a decision. "Yes, you both should go. We don't know what the situation is, so we'll leave actual assignments fluid. Partner up, use local assets if necessary, contact Colonel Rhodes if circumstances warrant, and debrief me when you get back."

"Thank you both for volunteering."

"Sounds like a plan." Natasha shot Phil a smile. "It'll just be like old times, huh, Coulson?"

They weren't fully up to staff. No true Team Delta running around, but the more things changed the more things stayed the same. It'd be good to be out in the field with Coulson again. Maybe fall back into old patterns while they made sure the world wasn't about to teeter off a cliff again.

"You know it," Phil said, returning the smile. "Except slightly less chaotic."

Slightly. Very slightly. Okay, probably not at all less chaotic. But he had to try putting that out into the universe, had to try and throw some sort of good vibes at their work. Not too much so -- he wasn't trying to curse them, thank you -- but something.

Call him an optimist sometimes. Rationalist, mostly. Optimist, sometimes.

In addition, I've been informed that Captain Rogers has returned.

I have no knowledge of his plans at this point, but he is a long-term friend of S.H.I.E.L.D. and an Avenger. Keep on the lookout for any change in information traffic related to him or the Avengers in general.

There might be crappy coffee for everyone else, but Nick's second in command had brought her own salted caramel yumminess...no she wasn't sharing.

How much does he know of what happened before? With the other him. The one that was living happily with the love of his life until they both disappeared.

Bucky was new to SHIELD - well, new to working for SHIELD. It was quite a change, considering his past (the one with no autonomy whatsoever), but he figured that continuing on a path that led to some sort of redemption, of atoning for all wrongs he'd committed as the Winter Soldier, had him in a position as a field agent in an organization that was also trying to build itself up again. He respected that. He related to it.

He was fine with drinking shitty coffee and brought implements to take notes with at the meeting, and the first parts of it made sense, but why they were gossiping about Steve now...didn't. Make sense, that is. Oh well, he figured there was probably some reason.

"I'm not sure why that matters? Or why anyone needs to tell him," Bucky supplied. "He already knows what happened in my timeline, and he was confused enough by that."

Bobbi wasn't sure which timeline Barnes was from. She still needed to update the SHIELD file on that...which meant she shot FURY a quick request for a private meeting. Right there. On her phone to his. Would it annoy him? Probably.

"Full disclosure," she answered Barnes. "He and Carter were the favorites of a lot of the press. People are bound to ask questions." Her smile was somewhat reptilian. "Or does he plan on staying inside the entire time he's here?"

"Oh." Bucky blinked those glacial eyes, pen tapping anxiously against the notepad. He guessed he could have brought a laptop, but he preferred old-fashioned writing - plus the vibranium fingers and a keyboard, sometimes that was dicey. He had fine enough control with his metal hand, but still. An oldster all the way.

He sighed a little, inwardly. Favorites of a lot of the press. That must have been annoying to Steve, whatever version of him it was. "I guess I can talk to him about it? Though to be fair I wasn't here either. That was - other me, I think."

"So far I've seen more of you right now than I did the last you so you're already doing better." Why yes. Bobbi did take advantage of the fact she was Assistant Director and allowed her usually unappreciated humor shine through.

"I can get you the files on what happened so you can brief him." Honestly, something like this would probably be better coming from Barnes. Rogers and Carter really had been happy. Until they weren't here. Bobbi just hoped wherever...or whenever...they were they were together.

Bucky chuckled lightly. "Um, thanks - I think?" He still kind of had trouble wrapping his brain around the fact that there were like, copies of him - it was some sci-fi shit that was beyond his understanding, but he guessed with the multiverse and all that was, it made a little sense.

"Files, sure. Yeah, that sounds good. Thanks," he added, sipping his coffee - no cream, no sugar, just black sludge. He'd be interested to see what was in those files anyway - apparently a lot of stuff regarding Peggy which, considering what Bucky knew about Steve's decisions and time travel, didn't sit well with him.

Nick nodded towards Bobbi, but otherwise didn't acknowledge her request.

"Agent Barnes, if Captain Rogers is up to it, being the darling of the press is a commodity in short supply around here and the Avengers could use some good press. Mister Stark may be abrasive to powerful people in a few hours, as surprising as that might be.

"A good superhuman interest story would be a welcome change, I suspect."

"And given that he worked for us for a number of years, we should probably make sure he knows what was and wasn't in the Triskelion Data Dump. It's hard enough to know what happened for those of us who remember it."

Nick didn't look pleased by the thought.
