Re: Jack Murdock
i HAD to answer these before I went to bed
1. He really does wish he was good with numbers and concepts like money and measuring time. That's the biggest problem in his life and even though he's adapted to deal with it all, it's his biggest handicap in day-to-day life. The rest? Nah. He's happy with himself, as a rule, even if his relationship to his autism is frustrating and complicated.
2. Fuck that noise. Jack is kind of hardcore about hating the registration system and thinks it undermines the entire purpose of vigilantism to begin with -- and it puts illegal vigilantes who refuse to work with the government in danger. Registration feels like it's encouraging people to become superheroes: design a costume, pick an unclaimed name, pass a training exam and fill out some forms, and you're in! Jack's view of vigilantism is that it's about working outside the letter of the law to do what needs to be done to save innocent people - because the system, while the best system possible, is flawed and some people use the system to go unpunished. The benefits of registration are outweighed by the drawbacks, and he's not too pleased about any of this corporate/government bullshit. Why the fuck are we trademarking superhero logos and selling merchandise? Why do we have gossip rags about superheroes? Why are we all so preoccupied with image instead of focused on doing the work?!
But he never mentions this, because no one's ever bothered to ask.
