Nat and Bucky made him feel like he deserved the attention he got. They encouraged him to be confident, to speak up when he wasn't feeling well or needed help or was doing better than someone assumed. It made him a much better patient and meant that he got medical help exactly when he needed it instead of pushing himself. He had to take responsibility for himself and his own health. Ironic, that super spies would be the ones to teach Luka to stand out in a crowd and demand things for himself.
Tony's been a good mentor, scientifically, and (accidentally) taught him not to expect validation from others. He can give it to himself when he needs it.
