activity check, october 2014. [31 Oct 2014|12:34am]
It's time again for Activity Check! Just as a reminder, the currently activity rules are the following:
» 1 log and 2 other pieces of activity (network posts, text or email conversations, or more logs). Logs, net conversations, texts and emails must have at least 5 comments per character in an individual conversation to count toward activity. The original post counts as a "comment". You can only make one count of activity per post.

OR

» 5 network conversations, texts or emails, all meeting the 5 comment per character minimum.

Narratives and gifts that don't result in conversations in the post don't count. The activity requirements are specifically to foster interaction between characters. We certainly want you to write narratives for the fun of it, but they don't count as official activity.

If the need comes up, being on hiatus will get you out of activity check for one consecutive month. If you know you're going to be too busy to play for longer than that, then we need to reconsider whether New Avalon is the right game for you.

Characters apped on or after the 20th will only be required to have 2 net conversations, and on or after the 27th they're exempt completely.

Any character or player who doesn't check in will be removed. Barring extraordinary circumstances, you can return after a missed Activity Check once, and only once, with a single character. Missing it twice will result in being banned. Checking in shows us that you still have interest in the game in general, and failure to check in will result in removal if the mods aren't contacted ahead of time.

There will be no exceptions to any missed or failed activity this month. Not even for a mod. If you lose a character to activity check, that character will be available to re-application after all other remaining characters belonging to that player have passed activity for November, and that character's parents/PB won't be eligible for holds until we're shown that activity. While we understand that life is often complicated, activity check is our way of making sure you can handle being an active participant that other players can rely on. There's no shame in having a smaller roster if you're struggling to meet comment counts. With how active the game has been recently, what we're asking shouldn't be too hard to meet: a minimum of 15 comments (if a thread is part of your activity) or 25 (if you're using net activity alone) per character in 30 to 31 days. If meeting that requirement is difficult, it's a sign that you're either stretched too thin or that your character just isn't clicking with the game.

Also, we strongly encourage players to track their activity over the course of the month instead of gathering it all on the last day. In this and other games we've run, we've noticed that activity check-related panic is often the result of confusion or ambiguity at not knowing your own activity status in the game. Recently Kait's made an ACTIVITY TEMPLATE (which both mods use) that anyone is free to use. To put it into your own GDocs, just go to File » Make A Copy..., and it'll make a copy of the document for you. The GDoc will also make it ten times easier to show us your activity if you're in the market to re-apply for a lost character.

Keeping track of your activity as you go -- even if you only do it once a week or once every couple weeks or when you feel you need it -- will save you the stress of wondering whether or not you made activity by the end of the month.

Activity Check will run from Friday, October 31st to Friday, November 7th, ending at midnight EST. All activity must be from October 1st to midnight October 31st (so you've got the rest of today to get the last minute stuff in!). Fill out the form below, toss it into a comment, and bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes, or until edges are browning. You can also link us to a copy of your Activity Template on GDocs instead if you have it set up; just make sure that the doc is set to allow anyone with a link to view it.

halloween plot ~edits~! [31 Oct 2014|03:16pm]
HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Don't forget, tonight is the Halloween Enchantment Plot! The Black Witch will be playing a trick on Staten Island tonight by casting a spell that makes people believe they are their costumes. There's no shapeshifting, no extra powers, nothing beyond the belief that whatever someone is dressed up as, that's what they are now. Think harmless, think funny.

We originally had this set up to last 24 hours, but realized late in the game that that's kind of long. So the enchantment will set in at about 9pm (late enough that some partygoers will already be drunk, more shenanigans for all!) and last until sunrise on November 1st, resulting in an uncomfortable magical hangover on top of some peoples' regular hangovers.

Post below with Halloween stuff -- especially character costumes, if your characters are dressing up and will be affected by the enchantment. This is also a good place to put a general summary of what your people will be up to tonight, especially if you're going to be busy. Net posts and such can be backdated, of course, but this is a fun holiday plot and we'd like not to stretch it out into next week or anything.
