WHO: Kassi Khan-Carrelli + Peggy Rogers WHEN: Thursday, March 19, 2015 WHERE: Kassi's private room at the Stark Memorial-Staten Island private wing WHAT: Kassi wakes up after her injuries last week, after a medically-induced coma.
______________
Kassi woke up slow and groggy, to the sound of beeping monitors and a couple of medical staff checking in. She'd been in a coma for almost a week, they said, but it had been on purpose: they'd kept her medically sedated so her body's healing powers would kick in and she wouldn't disturb them, and she wouldn't have to consciously experience the extreme pain that came with her injuries. They'd patched her up, but they'd done the bare minimum -- healing powers like Kassi's were going to work on their own, slow as they were, and medical interference was just going to slow down the process and make it worse.
So when Kassi woke up, her burned skin was smooth and new, and she only had a dull ache in the abdomen where she'd been impaled.
Honestly, she couldn't complain, and the first thing she did was ask for a hot cocoa.
Then it was chaos and noise. Waking up had been a scheduled event, and that meant family coming in and out, in and out, bothering her while she still felt overwhelmed and out of it. Her mom brought her flowers and her N7 hoodie, and her dad read her news articles about the event and the speculation about what had happened to Wonder after the battle.
By the time Peggy came in, Kassi looked exhausted, but she grinned, finishing off the last of her cocoa. "Was wondering when I'd see you."
