Ginny was not strictly a tomboy. While it was true that growing up in a house full of boys did not really due much for teaching appreciation for the girly arts, and that Ginny did not always have the patience for things like elaborate hair and skin routines or discussing what colors looked proper and what shoes went with what top, she did like to look pretty and dress up, now and then. She was still sussing out just what it meant to be a girl, half the time, and how much she liked it. There were days when she liked it quite a bit.
And then there was today, when she seriously considered heading to Hogwarts and the Restricted Section to see if she could find a book on gender-changing charms so she could be a boy, go shopping with Bill for half an hour for dress robes or a suit, and then go have a pint. It was so bloody unfair.
Being in the same room as Fleur Delacour on a regular basis wasn't good for the ego. Fleur drew eyes and attention where ever she went. Ginny had come to reluctantly admit that Fleur didn't exactly always go out of her way to court attention. It just happened. That didn't mean that she didn't enjoy it sometimes though, Ginny thought. And that standing in a room, being fitted for a dress for a wedding where she'd spend the whole time looking like a toad compared to the bride wasn't a hassle.
Which was deeply unfair and Ginny knew it, since if ever there was a day a woman SHOULD get to look loads better than everyone around her, it was probably her wedding day. It just wasn't fun to be the bridesmaid for the wedding of the most beautiful woman in the world when you still half wished your brother had picked someone else in the first bloody place. Fleur had stuck with Bill through the attack and Ginny had warmed to her for that.
But she still spent at least thirty percent of their time together vaguely wishing she could feed her future sister-in-law to a dragon without feeling guilty for it. She'd probably only give the dragon indigestion, and then Charlie would whinge at her, so Ginny would have to feel guilty for murder AND dragon abuse.
So she'd just have to put up with it.
But Merlin's hairy arse, if there was something with RUFFLES, she was going to strip it off mid ceremony and finish out the wedding starkers. Or at least fantasize about it.
She touched one of the fabric swatches on display dubiously. "It's itchy," she pointed out to Fleur. Molly had ducked out earlier. Ginny wasn't sure if she was relieved to not have to put up with her loving but harried mother AND Fleur, or jealous she'd gotten to cut and run.
