Michael managed a pathetic little smile. A couple of hours later he would probably kick himself for having been such a spiteful git (wasn't that how he'd lost Ginny in the first place? Aside from some unmentioned business about him finding put that his father was some unnamed Death Eater?). For the present, however, it felt good to let all those bad feelings out for once. Stop pretending you're a nice person.
He squeezed Lavender's hand back. "Are are too good to be rebounds," Michael agreed, his smile gradually growing a bit more genuine. "We should get t-shirts. 'Need a rebound? Look the other way.' or something like that."
Michael took a drink from his butterbeer and gave Lavender a look that spoke of full understanding. They were like survivors of the same battle. They were epic. They needed a battle cry.
"You'll find someone who is good to you eventually."
