Michael stepped into The Three Broomsticks incapable of keeping a smile off his face. Spring was in full force, the sun was shining, he had passed his Apparition test and the long awaited book-package had finally arrived. Today was going to be spent with friends, namely Terry and Anthony whom he was waiting for, while the evening belonged to Mr. Arthur Conan Doyle. Life was if not perfect, then at least pretty good.
He looked around to find a table he could claim until his friends caught up but unsurprisingly The Three Broomsticks was pretty full. Michael caught a flash of red-and-gold scarf and his stomach twisted. Not as badly as it had by the beginning of the year where each passing Gryffindor had been enough to cause Michael to go into an internal monologue about his broken heart, but it was still there. This feeling that reminded him that he'd been a complete git to ruin things with Ginny.
Michael resolutely pushed these thoughts aside and made his way over to the table. There was enough space for Terry and Anthony to squish themselves in once they arrived and it certainly beat drinking your butterbeer somewhere on the staircase.
Getting closer Michael recognised the lone Gryffindor as Lavender, a girl he tended to associate with a perpetual smile or at least a constantly pleasant disposition. Now, however, she looked sad and that was what settled things for him. He couldn't stand seeing a girl being sad, probably a result of growing up with a social worker specialising on helping women.
Michael's walk got more determined and a moment later he was smiling at Lavender.
"Hey. Do you mind if I sit with you?"
