How You Live
Who: Kitty OTA
When: Monday mid-morning
Where: In the stands of the sand Arena
What: Trying to read but not really
The sun was out, high enough overhead to cast down shafts of light and warm certain spots more than others. Kitty happened to be sitting in one of these spots trying to get warm, but even the direct sunlight wasn't doing anything. Since her fight the other day, there was a certain inner chill that seemed quite content to stay where it was. It had nothing do to with who she'd been out in the ring with, though ironic that his abilities had everything to do with the cold. The only thing she could thing of to blame for this inability to get warm was what had happened in the arena she sat staring into at the moment.
As soon as Kitty received the word that she was going to be fighting, a fellow Blue Blocker to boot, she'd made up her mind that she would not fight back. This was not a death match and there were healers somewhere that could take care of her. She was not going to fight and give these people what they wanted. And so being in the arena, she'd kept her resolve. Icaman was his name here and he certainly lived up to it. Kitty kept her word to herself and didn't fight back. Instead, she started right up at the owners box as she took hit after hit. And when there was no more strength in her to be visually defiant, when she was on the ground and it still wasn't over yet, she tried to pretend she was somewhere else, anywhere else. That had been what did it for her.
She remembered being in the woods with Calixte and the words the other girl had spoken about doing what you had to to survive. Something in her brain snapped then, and she'd almost gotten up to give her opponent a real fight. But the battle was called, Icaman the victor and she the very clear loser. Someone took her pain away, mended her cuts and scrapes, but her mind was still going back and forth between fight or flight. Kitty sat there with an open book in her lap, blue eyes hardly reading but fixed and focusd on something a million miles away.
