"No, no. Not again." Jason moved, placing his arms around the boy. "I won't let them." Strong words in a gentle tone, and for a man who just had to be literally saved from himself and was still bleeding on the sheets, it didn't seem likely that he would stop anything at the moment. "I'm here. No matter how crazy I am, I'm still here for you."
The need of his friend was bringing that strength back out of the previously debilitated old man. Maybe it was the understanding that was finally taking hold of him. That which he had seen was not real, and this was life currently. It could be so confusing once you lost yourself in the illusions that were honed in to trap others. It could make or break someone once all reality changes, and Jason wasn't immune to his own ability.
