September 3rd, 1996 - Homeward Bound
Who: Albus, Ariana
Where: childhood home
When: ...Um. Late afternoon
Rating: PG, I assume. PG-13 if she has a spell. I mean, um. *shifty eyes* I'm not expecting anyone in particular.

Status: Closed / Completish
Summary: Albus visits his childhood home on a hunch, and finds his sister Ariana. After managing to coax her out of the house, he takes her to Hogsmade by portkey (she almost has a spell) and they head off to see Aberforth.

Call it a hunch.

He had spoken - not terribly in depth, but enough - to Lily and Merope each. He had spoken a bit to Frank, and Alice Longbottom as well. And while he had nothing specific to tie all these connections together his mind was attempting to come up with one anyway. It was keeping him up at night, this worry about what it all meant. Was it a sign of something to come? Should he be preparing?

And then... he got a hunch.

He had been fiddling with the ring. He had not warn it yet, though he had been sorely tempted to on more than one occasion, but he had been fiddling with it quite a bit. Thoughts of Ariana swam through his head.

If anyone deserved a second chance at life...

He didn't tell anyone he was leaving, or the portraits where he was going, when he dawned his travelling cloak and proceeded out of the castle into the afternoon sun. If any issues cropped up, he knew that Minerva would be more than capable of handling them.

Besides. This felt important to him.

Once he reached the edges of the castle grounds, he turned on the spot and apparated to a location that was so etched into his memory, that he didn't think he would forget it if he lived another 100 years.

His childhood home.

He was silent for a moment, contemplative, and did no approach. He rested his hand gently against the fence that surrounded the property. The house did not look very lived in. Had Aberforth sold it when he had not been paying attention? But he doubted it. He didn't think his brother would ever be able to part with the place - too much history and past.

He had been drawn here. Why... he wasn't sure yet. But he knew there was a reason.

"Hello?" he called out. His voice seemed loud and echoey to him, but it was probably quieter than he was imagining.

He wondered if he genuinely expected a reply.

Albus could feel his own body shaking with sympathy effort to help Ariana - though he didn't know if his efforts have been beneficial or if she had managed it on her own. He was fairly certain of the latter, though - nothing he had ever done in the past had been particularly helpful to her. If it had been, so much pain could have been avoided...

"Hogsmade," he said quietly when Ari asked her question, managing a weak smile. "Aberforth lives here. Come, I'll show you where."

He started to slowly ease away from her, moving in the direction of the Hogs Head. He supposed he should send word ahead to Aberforth, and he pulled out his wand to send his patronus off to his brother, in case he was in. He wondered if this would really minimize the backlash he would receive from his brother... and then he wondered if there would be any backlash at all. Perhaps he was giving himself too much credit in that regard. His own guilt was so strong that he just assumed that the blame on Aberforth's part was just as strong as well? Maybe Abey would just be so pleased to see Ariana that he wouldn't even...

Albus shook off those thoughts, glancing over to Ari to be sure she was all right and still following him.

She watched his patronus with a mix of curiosity and envy, following it with her gaze until it was out of sight. She hurried to catch up to Albus, her hand reaching again for his.

No, she didn't understand how she was here, but she wasn't entirely sure it mattered how or why. It was enough, wasn't it, that she was here, she was alive, and she was soon to be in the company of both of her brothers?

Ari tilted her head slightly to regard Albus, and she offered him a little smile before she set her sights on the buildings ahead, wondering which was to be their destination.

He was wary about the meeting with Aberforth, but the more he thought about it the more he realized that it would all be peripheral. The same way it had taken him until the funeral to properly punch him for the incident in the first place.

Ari had a funny way of doing that to Abey.

It would be fine. And really - if Aberforth exploded at him, he could take that. Because the important part was that Ariana had returned, and had been given a second chance at life. And for the moment, he didn't care the reason why - he was just happen that it had happened.

So with a newfound confidence to his step (which, again, he had to remember to slow because Ari couldn't keep up with him) he moved toward the Hogs Head for the reunion.
