"You should leave London. It's best that you not be around if their friends come for vengeance."
Eric paused his paper shuffling and looked over at her when she said she had no purpose anymore. He set the papers down and turned to face her then spoke softly. "I was married in my human life. We had six children, I buried three of them. My wife died with the sixth. I was then made vampire, and from afar I watched my other three children pass. I too felt as though there was no point in my living as I watched my children, and then my grandchildren grow old and die while I never aged a day. I missed my wife, and I wanted to go to Valhalla to be with her. I remember when I was like you, young, the pain still fresh. But it will fade with time. Living is worth it. There is a reason I was nearby tonight, when you were attacked. And it was not so that I might stand back and let them harm you."
