Summary: Sephiroth tries to understand the relationship between Angeal and Genesis, and how he fits in to it.
A/N: Unfortunately life had to go and interrupt me this month, so all my posts are/will be terribly terribly late orz. But no matter, I'll put up a couple that I prepared earlier, and the others I shall aim to finish in the near future.
Sephiroth didn't know much about cooking. Until now he had always been provided for by Shinra, so it never bothered him that Angeal generally took care of all their dinner preparations, as well as the occasional breakfast and lunch. The broad-shouldered SOLDIER seemed to have an affinity with the hot plate and was quite handy with the chopping block, so it went as an unspoken rule that he was in charge of the kitchen, and the General had to admit that he couldn't find it in himself to mind. Genesis didn't seem to mind either for that matter, as it was becoming a frequent occurrence that he would invade the kitchen space regardless of his friend's claim, wrapping his arms around Angeal's middle and cooing happily when he was hand-fed straight from the saucepan. That was Genesis for you, ever making his own rules.
Initially Sephiroth hadn't thought he'd like this constant living with his two friends and colleagues, but after these past couple of weeks he had to admit he was becoming surprisingly fond of the house-plants and LOVELESS advertisement posters - those amongst the many other little treasures that Angeal and Genesis kept about the house. Both had encouraged him from the beginning to put some of his own things around the place too, to make it feel more 'homely', but Sephiroth had so far failed to think of any possessions worthy of displaying in such a way. Not that he really owned anything that could be set so easily on the mantle or hung upon the wall, he only really possessed a handful of photos of the three of them together, plus a couple of little trinkets he'd received on various birthdays, and he much preferred to keep them to himself and out of view. He had little capacity for being sentimental, but when it came to Angeal and Genesis, things were just... different.
Although it had only been a relatively short time that they'd occupied the apartment, Sephiroth was already making a habit of sitting by the wayside and simply observing his two best friends and the closeness they shared. It was interesting to watch them act so intimately yet be so comfortable about it - a concept he couldn't quite grasp to begin with - especially when he was so obviously watching from a mere few feet away. As it was he'd never really been witness to such gestures of closeness before - at least not before Angeal and Genesis had so firmly planted themselves within his life - but again, he didn't mind it, and neither did the other two SOLDIERs. Rather, they had on numerous occasions expressed their delight in his 'being curious', having almost given up trying to involve him physically in their regular trysts on the kitchen table or over the arm of the sofa.
As much as he attempted to imagine himself as a part of their coupling, it had never brought forward the urge to want to touch them so openly or with such intent, as he felt it would only disrupt the rhythm they seemed to create with their bodies - a beat that never failed to completely mesmerise him no matter how often he was witness to it. Sephiroth deemed it strange that such a humanly base act could end up distracting him so easily, and as time progressed he found himself thinking of it outside of his friends' company and even within working hours, the desire to see it growing ever greater. It got to the point where he realised he was actually looking forward to returning to their apartment of an evening, quite content to leave reports unfinished and letters unsigned where he wouldn't have allowed it before. Naturally Zack had noticed and commented on it, sounding mildly worried as he did so, and following a good few minutes of heavy thought Sephiroth had responded with the simple insight: "Living with the Commanders is... changing me."
To the General's surprise his Lieutenant had switched on his beaming smile after that, congratulating him in his usual over-excitable way with a 'good for you' and a hefty slap on the back. He couldn't understand why of all times it happened then, but he suddenly felt himself smiling a little too, and while Zack became even more enthusiastic because of it, he actually managed to shoo the distraction-of-a-boy out of his office fairly smartly so he could get back to his papers and files. But still that smile didn't quite disappear.
Something more changed then too, because thereafter Sephiroth found himself managing to smile more often - though it was mostly when he was in the apartment with Angeal and Genesis, and mostly when they were otherwise occupied and not likely to look at him. Of course, such a time was more prone to occur when the two darker-haired SOLDIERs were taking pleasure in one another - a frequent event in itself - so when a week passed without more than a mission or two between them, the General was able to look back and realise that he had smiled quite a bit, and it made him glow a little inside to think that maybe Zack was right, and his changing wasn't so bad after all.
Then again, it wasn't just the smiling that was appearing more noticeably, but certain other... feelings were becoming more common too. The more he made effort to witness to his friends' intimacies, the more he found himself feeling oddly uncomfortable by the end of it all. At first it had just been a little heat in his cheeks - nothing he needed to worry about within the darkness of their bedroom - but it was gradually expanding to include shortness of breath, and an almost uncontrollable racing of his pulse, things that he couldn't easily explain away should he be questioned.
And his 'symptoms' only seemed to get stronger as time wore on, his heartbeat continually running rampant whenever Angeal pressed his lips to the flushed skin between Genesis legs, and the burning throb between his own legs whenever the redhead climbed on top of the other man, lowering himself with a slowness somewhat akin to torture. Worst of all was the time when Genesis had actually slipped his whole hand inside of Angeal. Sephiroth hadn't known it was even possible to do that, no less that it could elicit so much pleasure, but regardless of being a mere observer, he had never felt such a lightning strike of heat in his veins before, nor had he ever seen Angeal in such a state of vulnerability like this, and the sounds that were escaping from his lips were...
But it had only happened the once, that one night, and things had continued as per normal the next evening, Genesis taking up his usual spot on the receiving end, seemingly all too eager to spread his legs. The General noted Angeal as being especially brutal on this night after, but Genesis' only reaction was to be even more vocal than normal, cries bouncing off the walls and right into Sephiroth's intently tuned ears. The resulting pressure had just begun to pool in his stomach when the two men suddenly yelled out one last time and collapsed exhaustedly to the bed, taking the source of his arousal with them. He didn't move after that, biting down on a knuckle as he tried to regain control of himself.
Genesis had looked up from the bed then, pleasure-hazed eyes giving him the once over, before lingering pointedly on the bulge in his crotch. With a quick flick of the Commander's hand, Sephiroth - trying to disguise his heavy breaths - found himself beckoned onto the mussed sheets and curling around the redhead's body, as he had been requested to do on many occasions since they began sharing a bed. Although never before had he lain down with them while in such a disordered state.
"You should join in next time," the other murmured lowly from behind the darkness, pushing back just enough to bump Sephiroth's ignored arousal, "We could make it good for you."
And so the room went suddenly quiet, the only sounds present being those of the two Commanders sleeping. Sephiroth lay awake for long after that however, mostly just listening, but also wondering about Genesis' offer that he join in and the half-promise that they could 'make it good'. He'd have to remember to ask the all-knowing Zack what exactly his house-mate meant by that, how exactly he would be expected to participate, and whether it really would be as good as he might imagine. But nonetheless, he decided all on his own that it actually sounded like something he may just be inclined to try. He didn't understand it, but Angeal and Genesis just seemed to have that effect on him.
