Prompt: Kingdom Hearts, antiform!Sora/Riku/Kairi: territoriality – mine
Summary: Even as a Heartless, Sora knows his People.
An inky-black head of hair thrust itself under Kairi's chin, and she reached up with languid fingers and stroked it. "I'm okay," she assured Sora, though none of them really knew whether Sora could understand human speech in his Heartless guise. Sora was silent, but somehow gave the impression of purring as he nuzzled into her collarbone.
Riku came jogging up, Way to Dawn slung over his shoulder, and paused a respectful space away from Sora and Kairi. "I think that's all of them," he reported, and Kairi hummed assent and smiled. "You okay?" Riku asked anyway.
"We're fine," Kairi assured him. Sora gave her one last nuzzle, then hopped up on all fours to twine around Riku's ankles. Riku held still, eyes tight, letting Sora do as he wished but not engaging him. Kairi didn't blame Riku for that. He had reason to be wary of the dark. Sora, on the other hand, seemed to take it amiss - he blinked up at Riku, yellow eyes too full of life to be any but Sora's, and nudged Riku's hand insistently with his head. Kairi giggled and Riku mock-glowered at her as he unbent his hand enough to pat Sora's head.
At the first touch, Sora jerked upright, and Riku snatched his hand away - but Sora was already scampering into the courtyard, claws scribing a challenge in the air. Kairi's heart thudded in her chest as the stones beneath her began to shiver.
"We missed one," Riku sighed, and Kairi groaned as she hauled her weary body up on Riku's arm.
The Heartless rose from the ground itself, formless and dark, and Kairi was just wondering whether it would be worth it to cast an Aero spell when Sora charged. Riku cried a warning (going to have to tease him about that later, Kairi found herself thinking giddily), but Sora's awareness was all for his opponent now. In moments it was over, Sora's claws cutting the massive shadow to ribbons that swirled up and melted in the air. A heart, freed from its prison, ascended skyward until Kairi could no longer see it.
Sora trotted back to them, his bouncing stride putting Kairi in mind of a puppy eager for praise. She giggled and put her hand out to him, but Sora went to Riku first, rose up to his full height and shoved his face into the crook of the other boy's neck.
"Ow," Riku complained, one arm going around the Heartless boy's waist to steady him. Then Sora wasn't a Heartless anymore, but Sora, eyes shut, a fold of Riku's skin still caught between his teeth.
Kairi couldn't help herself. She went to them and embraced them both, nuzzling into Sora's hair. "You're so brave," she said, only a little teasing.
"Mmn," Sora muttered, then let go Riku's neck to speak. "Mine."
Kairi wasn't about to argue with that, and Riku knew better than to try.
