She was right. He had changed. He had seen this world for what it was, how vile the people who inhabited it were. Fina was the most important person in the world to him before; he would have killed for her. Now, however... he was so blindly loyal to Galcian, but Galcian had not eroded him enough yet to take away his feelings for Fina. Had things been different, Fina could have been taken away by the pirates, and he could have lost his love for her.
Fate, perhaps.
"I understand what you are saying," Ramirez said quietly, unsure of what he himself was saying. "I have changed, yes. I reject the views of the Elders. I have sworn allegiance to Valua out of my own volition." Ramirez stood up from his seated position, and stared out of the window. They were passing the stone tunnel, and were heading into the southern skies, and the wind outside could be heard whipping passed the aerodynamic shape of the Valuan ships.
"I originally joined the Valuan Armada because I felt that they were the only ones who could save this world... where you and I could live like royalty, free from the meddlesome interference of the Elders. I know that Galcian can do that for us. I have faith in him. He can make this world worthy of you and I." After he said this, he turned back to Fina. He was clearly worried that she wouldn't believe him.
