Caroline had sat through the normal opening ceremonies of Hogwarts after an agonizing train ride. She had sat alone on the train because the only cars that had people also had…temptation. She knew she still wasn’t guarded as she should be, not used to being back and school, so hiding was the better part of valor.
Though the Ministry seemed to have done their best to dispose of the fliers strewn about by the Knights of Wulpulgris, Caroline had seen one of them when she’d gone shopping for books in Diagon Alley the week before school and the tension it created did little to ease Caroline tense mood.
After finding her trunk in her dorm room, she had gone about unpacking and trying to get herself into the proper mindset to live in the snake pit that was the social circles of the Slytherin dungeon.
Once she had felt secure, enough anyways, Caroline changed into a demure gray wool skirt with a pair of stylish brown boots that were a perfect match to her cashmere sweater. Leaving her hair down, she tucked her wand into her pocket and made her way down the stairs with her Arithmancy book to study by the fire in case she didn’t find anyone to talk to.
As expected, there were quite a few of her fellow Slytherins down in the common room. Smiling weakly at a few, she moved over to sit in a leather upholstered lounge chair near the sire. Pulling it a little closer, she relished the feel of the heat on her bare legs.
Flipping open her book, she feigned reading as she kept a subtle eye on who was coming and going. Part of her hoped that someone would come talk to her but part of her worried about just who that might be…
