When that question, too, seemed to fall on deaf ears, Rei began to look around and see if there was any sign of others nearby. Maybe someone that knew her. For all he knew, she could be in some form of shock. But that didn't seem to explain how she could of ended up where she was now, sitting in such an unusual spot with such a calm air.
Unless she ended up here much the way he did. But he felt a bit ridiculous as soon as that thought came to mind, because he wasn't even entirely sure what his own mind was getting at that there-- he didn't know the 'way' he got here himself. "Hold on a sec. I'll be right back" he said to her-- still feeling like he should say something, even if she wasn't responding-- and then stood up, crossing the stones once more, returning to land. There could of been a house, or a trail nearby, and he could ask someone if they knew anything. It wasn't a great plan, but it might solve both their problems at the same time if he was successful.
Less than fifteen minutes later though, he returned back to the river, not having had any luck. He noted she hadn't moved an inch since he'd been gone-- he'd somewhat been hoping this had been a prank, and he'd catch her off guard this time, to find her moving, but that was not the case. On top of that, it was starting to get dark, and she would probably catch a cold, bare arm and bare legged as she was.
"It's starting to get dark... you probably shouldn't be out here," he said with a frown as he tilted his head and rubbed his neck, looking at the strange girl and trying to figure out what to do with someone who appeared to be in fine health, but refused to respond. And he'd thought Kira could use some help in the socialization department.
"Plus, you might fall in the water. You're sort of close to the edge there," he commented as he began to cross the stones again, back to where she was. "I'll help you over to the bank, if you stand up." He awaited response-- like she'd just start paying attention at random any moment now-- but one never came. And it was as he was waiting for said response, that he finally noticed something about her face. The girl wasn't Japanese.
"Oh... Hey, are you American?" he asked then in an optimistic tone, knowing as much English as he did Japanese, and even speaking it well enough to not have a noticeable accent. "....No?" he continued, when that didn't crack the puzzle either. Crouched as he was again, a small silence passed between then, his face positively puzzled. He joked, "One blink for no, two for yes." Which, of course, was when she had no urge to blink. "... Ok, now I'm just starting to creep myself out," he admitted, talking to this bizarrely unresponsive girl as he was, having this one-sided conversation. This was definitely 'weird dream' material, the sort the school counselors he saw from time to time would love to get a bite on with all the deep subconsciously symbolic meaning going on here, maybe that was what was going on after all. "... So, uh, I was going to ask if you'd mind if I moved you somewhere safer, but I'm guessing you don't have any input about this subject either." He touched her for the first time then, on her upper arm, tentatively hoping he could guide her to stand up, because actually picking her up seemed a bit overly invasive. But really, he couldn't just leave her out here.
