She watched in stunned silence when he put the bloody knife away, and her eyes flickered from his chest to his face and back again before everything sank in. The blood on his body and on his clothes, the knife, she was in the middle of the wilderness with a murderer and he kept questioning her. Kira took in a ragged breath when he spoke again to her, straining to understand what he was saying. It was typical for students to study English during high school, but putting it into use was a different matter entirely than cramming for exams!
Even though Kira repeated the words over in her head, she still found herself at a loss for how to reply, shaking her head fervently. "I'm sorry but I don't understand!" Unable to think of a way that might make her seem less threatening -- was that even possible, considering their roles? -- Kira held up her hands in front of her, realizing now that if she died here that she would never be able to give Rei the painting she had promised him. I want to see him again, she thought to herself, as she stared at the strange man before her helplessly.
"I..." she tried again, slowly, in her broken English. "I am unsure also of my placement." Kira swallowed nervously, wondering if what she said made any sense, but she decided that it was either time to show her cards or walk away from the table. Taking a step closer she looked up to the man, her brow furrowing slightly. "I am unknowing of my home!"
