What: Alice and Bella trying not to curse each other
Where: Diagon Alley
When: Saturday Morning
Status: Complete
Rating: Low

It was rare that Bellatrix did something as mundane as shopping. Unlike other woman or even her sister, spending all day riffling through pretty dresses and complimenting her shopping partner about how fabulous those emerald robes brought out her eyes did not appeal to her. It was actually rather sickening, but there were times when sitting at home and having to put up with her husband and sit around a dull house was worse so here she was.

Wading through the crowds with more shoving than was strictly appropriate and with her head held high, her patience with shopping had expired after only half an hour of walking. However, the shop in front of her had the item she wanted to buy and she was confident she could be quick. Pushing open the door, she ignored the twinkling of the bell or the presence of the plump shop assistance and moved straight to a rack of dark robes on the other side of the shop.

Admittedly Bella was not being careful. Her patience level was minimal and that always meant her level of caution for those around her was nought. Technically it was her fault, but accepting she was wrong was always difficult for Bella especially when it involved a stranger who she had no reason to respect or care about.

She did not immediately look at the woman beside her. She deliberately allowed her heavily lidded eyes to linger on an ugly pair of robes, before she raised her gaze to the other woman. Her arrogant careless expression momentarily floundered in surprise at the blood traitor Auror. It soon flicked back to distaste as she narrowly avoided reaching for the wand in her pocket as the words of her Lord to target Aurors rang in her ears.

"Are you expecting an apology, Longbottom?" she sneered as she slowly lifted her shoe from the other woman's foot. "You should not have been in my way."

Yes, Alice was a blood traitor as was her husband, and they were raising their son up to be a blood traitor. Not that Alice would admit any of that to the woman standing in front of her. Alice quite appreciated being alive.

As Bellatrix took her own sweet time to actually look at her, Alice wiggled her toes. Resisting the urge to bend down and rub them - because there was no way Alice would be anything approaching vulnerable in front of this woman, especially if the Order's beliefs about her were true - she waited for Bellatrix to speak.

"Considering that I was here first and you were the one to step on my foot, yes, an apology would be nice, Mrs. Lestrange." Although she did catch the flicker of surprise and made a note of it. The solid weight of her wand in her robe's pocket did make her feel at least a little bit better about wanting an apology. Besides, they were in Diagon Alley with plenty of witnesses around and she was an Auror. Surely, with those reasons Bellatrix wouldn't try anything stupid.

Bella almost laughed at the woman as her lips flared up in a broad grin that was more predatory than comforting. The woman actually thought she would apology. She was as much of a fool as she was a blood traitor if she thought the word sorry would really leave her lips.

"I think not, Longbottom," she said with a glare in her eye without bothering with a polite form of address like the other woman. "I thought you would have had the sense to move out of my way."

Barely resisting the urge to roll her eyes, Alice glanced over at the other woman. "Other than the fact I was here first and here long enough for you to actually see me, one would think that you would be able to see me, rather than the other way around as you describe it."

Thinking however that leaving the shop and attracting less attraction was the better idea, Alice let the sleeve of the robe she had been looking at slip through her fingers and she picked up the bag that was on the floor on the opposite of Alice. "I shall leave however and let you look at what you like."

Ignoring the first statement which gave her no motivation, she pounced on the second like a caged lion. Unlike Alice she was not worried about unwanted attention. There was no one important in this shop. Probably it was only filled with blood traitors and those with blood that was less than pure.

"Of course," she replied her back straightening and her lips curling into a smug smirk. Longbottom may have been a pest, but an argument with her would have been more entertaining than looking at dull robes. "I understand you are as much a coward as you are a blood traitor."

Alice sighed. Loudly. Why couldn't she come up with new insults? Belittle her kid or her hair - which Alice would admit to today that she wasn't having the greatest day with. Not throw out an insult that she heard almost every time she went out in the field. Although the 'coward' did rankle her.

Having been trained by Alastor Moody and being married to Frank Longbottom, Alice knew that once she pulled out her wand she had already lost. Plus there were civilians in here and she knew that she wouldn't be proud of herself, if she did drag herself down to Bellatrix's level - to say nothing of the paperwork. Her grip on the bag a little too tight, Alice turned just enough to be facing Bellatrix. "Good day, Mrs. Lestrange." Now if she could just get out of here.

Bellatrix was more than a little disappointed as Longbottom turned and left. She did say anything as she left. She only glared at her departing back until she was out of the shop.

It seemed she was reduced to boredom again. Clicking her tongue lightly, she gazed back at the robes. If only they were more entertaining.
