Who: Alice Longbottom and Rabastan Lestrange
What: Gossip Lunch time!
Where: The Ministry and then a restaurant.
When: June 22
Status: Incomplete/Closed
Rating: PG(-13)

The witch to replace Rabastan was trying her best, but it was obvious she was a fish out of water. The inbox and outbox areas were overflowing, memos were fluttering around her head like a type of hair ornament newly fashioned from Twilfitt and Tatting's. It had taken her a few minutes of attempting to find the case file regarding Felicity Hunter before Alice decided to give up the search for now and head to lunch. She had planned on heading to Ministry Munchies to grab a coffee and Danish then go back and look for the file herself.

But as she walked onto the lift, she found herself sharing it with one Rabastan Lestrange. "I do believe you owe me a lunch," she said as he looked up at her, a grin on her face.

Everything about his new position was an upgrade: higher pay, more responsibility, more freedom to do his work... but it was somewhat dull in its own way. And Rabastan knew that it wasn't entirely earned by his own merit; however, in the grand scheme of things, that mattered very little. He would do anything that his Dark Lord asked, whenever, and however he asked for it to be done. Even if that meant having to put up with Rookwood's occasionally inane commentary.

He breathed a sigh of relief when lunchtime rolled around. Normally he could make his own hours and schedule within the Department of Mysteries, but lately there had been an influx of paperwork which strongly reminded him of his days in the DMLE admin office. It was calming, organised, precise work. His obsessive neatness had been appeased by it. A few memories from the office returned to him as he rode the lift out towards temporary reprieve, when who should enter but Alice Longbottom.

Rabastan genuinely enjoyed the witch's company, though he had an inkling that perhaps he might need to 'extract' some information from her at some point in time. His Lord had expectations that would soon need meeting, after all. But for now, he put on a sly, amused expression and gave a tilt of his head in interest.

"So I do. Shall I assume that you'd like to cash in on that debt? Madam Maman is near enough, if you enjoy French cuisine."

If Alice knew about his mission from Voldemort (because after all, the fear of a name just increases the fear of a person and Alice was an Auror), any feelings that Alice might have had towards Rabastan would have disappeared and he would be under arrest faster than one could say Bathilda Bagshot. And she would do her best to make sure that he couldn't extract that information from her. But as Rabastan's membership in the Death Eaters was still unknown to Alice, she grinned back at him.

"I've actually never been there, but I've heard wonderful things about Madam Maman."

With a rather charming smile, he held out his arm for her to pass when the lift doors opened.

"Then, after you, Mrs Longbottom. Prepare for the second best meal you might have tasted in your life. I wouldn't dare say that their cuisine is any more excellent than whatever your household prepares, surely." Either an exaggeration or an excessive compliment; trust Rabastan to play up his dual role quite enthusiastically.

His mind, however, was on the matter of business that he still needed to pursue after the day's events. Perhaps he could find a way to work Alice into those matters. He resolved to keep an ever closer eye on her as lunch unfolded, his Lord's sharply inked words burned into his mind.

Alice just chuckled at his comment and shook her head. "It's a wonder how you don't have all the unmarried ladies in the Ministry flocking after you with lines like those." Alice stepped out of the lift and to the side to be out of the way of traffic as she waited for Rabastan to exit.

"How have you been?" she asked as the twosome made their way through the atrium of the Ministry. "Is the new job treating you all right?" To be truthful, it was a bit odd that he had gone from what amounted as an administrative type role to an Unspeakable. Those two positions seemed to be polar opposites.
