Who: Marlene and Peter
What: Just living to spend time.
Where: Peter's flat, then ~elsewhere~
When: Tuesday, 19.6.1981 around seven pm.
Status: Closed | Incomplete
Rating: Should be SFW, possible swearing.

Marlene spent her day in the best possible way - doing absolutely nothing. She slept in much later than she would normally allow herself, and generally lazed around the house until it was time for her to get ready to meet Peter. Their plans were nebulous at best, so after tidying herself up she threw on a pair of shorts, pinned her hair back in a mess bun, and called it a day. She'd gotten ready faster than she'd anticipated, and found herself pacing in her living room, glancing over at the clock every fifteen seconds. After ten minutes of this, she scoffed aloud at the ridiculousness of her behaviour. It was still only fifteen past six, and Peter wouldn't even be off work until seven. There was no need for her to be worrying holes into her rug, time would pass at the same exact speed it always did. She forced herself to sit down and read, but after three minutes of rereading the same line over and over, she decided that she could wait just as easily at Peter's house. Maybe he'd get off early, and he had said to meet him there.

With that decision made, she grabbed her wand and vanished, reappearing in Diagon Alley seconds later. She made her way to Scrivenshaft's and then up the stairs to the place he called home, using the key he'd given her to let herself in. Now that she was in the small flat that he called home, the anxiousness she'd felt at her own home wore off. Waiting wasn't so terrible if she could do it in a place that smell like him, she thought as she nestled down on the sofa, flicking through her journal to pass the time.

This woman was after his own heart, he knew it - just the way that she was so easily happy to order the food to the way that her body looked when it was so close to his. Damn her, evil temptress- didn't she know how hard it was to function without her looking her looking all cute on his couch.

With a little pout, Peter looked up at her and shrugged, having a sip of tea before he spoke. "I don't mind as long as you're the one changing them. Also, curry is great," but frankly, anything was good, he just wanted to eat.

As he watched her flip through the Prophet, Pete closed his eyes and let out a soft yawn, his free had running through his hair. "Hey, Mar - How come we never take naps? Naps are astounding. I think we'd be good at them."

"Curry it is, then," she said, tapping twice on the advert with her wand to place their order. With that done, Marlene was able to shift her attention back towards the man beside her. His eyes were closed and she could tell just how tired he really was. Poor man had spent all day working and now she was intruding on his private time, he probably just wanted to have an early night and not have to worry about entertaining her. But he did need to eat, it wouldn't do for him to skip dinner. She decided that she'd stay until after they'd eaten then make her excuses and allow him the rest of the night to himself.

It was a good thing that he had his eyes closed, because she watched him fondly for a touch longer than perfectly appropriate for their platonic status. At his question her mind provided her with the image of them together, her head resting on his shoulder, hands and legs intertwined as they rested together. Her mouth was suddenly dry and her throat worked in vain as she swallowed once, twice. "I do take naps," she said once she trusted herself to speak. "When I can. Do you not?" Then it was time to change the conversation before to moved into dangerous waters.

"So, how did everything go back at Hogwarts? Did things go according to plan?"

Where her mind went, his went as well and while he was there, his hands were tucked around her and he held her, the two of them taking a nap in the middle of a Sunday afternoon, maybe with a warm, soft blanket and a few pillows; he could mindlessly tangle her hair while she slept... They were dangerous thoughts and he was worried that she'd notice him smiling as he thought, so Peter pushed his grin down and opened his eyes after she asked him if he napped.

"Of course," he retorted, wanting to further argue that everyone naps. The two stared at each other for a moment and then she asked about Hogwarts. With an incredibly drawn out sigh, Peter raised his hand into the air and shrugged, his eyes closed again. "We went, we saw, I rode on Remus's shoulder. Nothing, though. Not anything of note."

He looked down at her and shrugged again, not a bit of shame on his face. They looked and found nothing - it was frustrating but really, what were they going to do? If Dumbledore was disappointed, well, they'd look out for that later.

When they locked eyes, and she was almost certain that he would be able to read the thoughts in her mind, she felt the familiar urge to reach out and touch him; once again she reminded herself that this was something she couldn't rush into. The idea of anything being rushed at this point, well into ten years of knowing each other and a good three years since she'd admitted her feelings to herself, almost made her laugh. But instead of finally giving in, she tucked her hands under her thighs and looked down at her shoes. "So, you didn't find whatever it was that Dumbledore sent you after?" It wasn't a question that needed asking, obviously he hadn't, it was a question asked to fill a space that was ever present between them.

They lived in the moment before the jump.

"I'm not shocked," she continued, "I don't understand why he thought you'd be able to find something in the castle in such a short amount of time. The place is huge." He didn't seem upset about it, which she was glad to see. "At least you got to spend some time with the boys?" He worked too hard, he probably needed to see his best friends. Things were so much more complicated now than she'd ever imagined things could be back when they were in school. Being an adult was completely overrated. "How is everyone doing?"
