Sorry About that

Previous Entry Add to Memories Tell a Friend Next Entry
Your ever so wise an all knowing sysadmin (insert sarcasm) goofed up. I forgot about the database logs getting really really big and filling up the log filesystem, and didn't move them somewhere bigger. So basically the database for the site locked up this evening and caused a couple of the tables to crash. I had to do some database repair work, but I got everything back up and running.

Yes this is the same thing that happened last time we moved servers (http://asylums.insanejournal.com/announcements/36438.html) , in the haste of it all I forgot about this, I'm sorry about it.

But take solace in knowing that it is fixed and the site shouldn't be going back down again any time soon.
  • hey! good to see the sites doing well again.
i figured it was some server stuff still being moved, or something (read: gremlins, full moon? zombies, an unplugged cord or voodoo)

and i have faith in you [info]squeaky. you've done good in my books!
and you apologized! that is totally sweet! you are so utterly forgiven!

*hands you a plate of freshly baked pie*

  • What? You're human o_O I'm disappointed! ;0)

Nah. As usual - with info - no problem. :D
  • I love having a sysadmin who admits when he makes a mistake. No one is perfect. It's because of your honesty that I know I can trust you.
    • Good, I'm glad to have earned so much trust from everyone
  • LJ refugee here...

Does anyone have any food? I forgot to bring food!
  • Thank you for communicating and being honest about what's happening. Sounds simple but it's SO important. :)
  • Thank you for letting us know what happened. I was kinda worried, and then it came back up and you let us know what happened. :) That made it all better.
  • Thankfully I was out so I did not noticed yesterday. But thanks for the info. :-D
  • Ooops. Well at least you can be up front about it even if it means admitting that you goofed up. Wish I could say the same for all admins of sites out there.

  • Not sure where to put this so I thought I would say here. I've created a few new journals within the last couple of days and I haven't recieved verifications for the e-mails and so I'm not able to actually comment with any of them. I've tried using different e-mails but no such luck.
  • Hey there :)

I don't know, but there seems to be an issue with the validation emails?

I've created three new accounts today, and not gotten validation mails for any of them. Know what's wrong? It doesn't help requesting one from the help pages either...
  • I cannot tell you how wonderful it is to have an actual human being (and humble and prompt!) taking care of us all. You're fab.
  • I wasn't going to bother commenting, but I feel like I should say at least something to you about this. While I was quite annoyed during the "blackout" because I couldn't access any of my roleplaying journals, I've been pleased so far with the way you run the site. You're humble, you're as prompt as can be expected from someone with a 9-5 job, and you aren't afraid to say that you made a mistake. That's something that will definitely make me want to keep my roleplaying here for a long time.
    • Great! We love all the roleplaying that happens here and are happy to give you a home!
  • (no subject) - [info]thecondor
  • I'm new to IJ and am so happy and impressed with how it's run! You do a great job.

I fear I may be stupid, however, so please forgive me if this is a dumb question or I'm asking it in the wrong place (also, if any other user is reading this, feel free to answer so the site operator isn't overrun with teh stooopid questions): when I 'post' in my journal, it doesn't appear to offer an option to select which userpic I want to use (in my RP journal, where I do have many pics uploaded, btw). If I then go back and edit the post, it does show that option. What am I doing wrong here?
  • I knew you'd fix it really quickly and let us know how things were as soon as possible. :D
