Okay,

We shut off the new server as I found that there were some incompatibilities with different versions of the libraries that were causing problems. We are going to work over the next day or two to fix these and get the new server up and running. For now, we figure that a site that is running a little slow during peak times is better than one with errors all over the place. Please report any errors you are still seeing in this post.

Thanks!
  • Oops! That's okay, it should calm down when people have finished transferring their things over from GJ anyway.
    • Im sure it will. In fact the "new" webserver really is just the old server all updated. I am thinking about just getting anew server and canceling this one. Like going super high powered .. ya know
      • Anything with "super" in the description is inherently awesome-sauce. *nods*
    • hahaha...so its an exodus! From GJ to IJ. Huzzah XD
      • Yeah, GJ cut their icon slots to 10 and email notifications of replies aren't even working, and no one knows what the hell's going on.
        • Its down to 10 now??? The notifications thing really ticked me off, got me so confused and Im sure a lot of other people too. Ugh.
          • Yup. GJ is boarding the failboat.
            • *laughs uncontrollably*

              failboat.

              Thats just awesome.

              hehehehe
              • Sadly I cannot take credit. D:

I find it utterly hilarious though that GJ System made a post in news saying "you can create accounts again but don't go overboard" and there's a whole pile of people claiming it's good communication, when you and Squeaky are sitting here just randomly chatting to all the perfectly contented users.

                FAIL GJ.
                • i dont want to flame or bash anyone, but i am honestly curious as to why people can not seem to communicate more. Hell, its a SOCIAL networking community, isnt it?

I find it sad that you are impressed with the chatting and communication. Because it should be a given, not an extra, yanno?
                  • Yeah, I mean, it could just be me, but if you're on the staff of/run a social networking site, shouldn't you like social networking enough to actually do it?

Exactly. There was a comment on gjnews that was along the same lines - "why are we kissing his feet like email notifications and account creation are such a luxury on a journaling site?" lol, seriously, it's just a bit mind boggling. I'm just hoping that most of the GJers who come over will see pretty quickly that they don't need the defensiveness and negativity that tends to get cultivated over there, because this site is what a social network should be. We have a community and a dedicated staff and tens of thousands of users who actually like the site and each other.
                    • I really hope everyone realizes it
                      • And grant everyone patience to be polite to them while they're getting used to the idea. :P

Btw, every so often when I load an f-locked post on someone's journal I get a 503 error. It's usually fine when I refresh, but I thought I'd let you know.
                        • Yeah, its just because of the load. Unfortunatly the hosting company hasn't gotten me my server yet. usually they only take a couple of hours, but they always say it may take up to a couple of days.

                          • *nod* Thought that was probably it. We'll manage just fine until then anyway, almost everything is working almost all of the time.
        • You forgot the part where GJ is still slow as shit and they have yet to actually post anything about the cut in userpics or the lack of notifications issues or, you know, tell anyone what the hell is going on.

It's refreshing to see a site where the admin actually responds to things and keeps us informed about what's going on in the rare instances when things aren't working optimally.
        • That sucks
