Another Welcome (and a sale!)

Previous Entry Add to Memories Tell a Friend Next Entry
I see we have had another influx of new users here at InsaneJournal. It appears that a lot of you aren't very happy with the announcement over at our competition. I do have to thank all of you, a number of you have already taken advantage of our low cost upgraded accounts, and we really and truly do appreciate your generosity.

I do want to take the time to let you know that InsaneJournal has not ever been in talks with anyone to purchase the site, nor do we foresee there being any interest from either myself or any outside party to acquire this site. I have been running InsaneJournal for the past 6 years and love this site and respect all of our users.

I am going to also take this space to announce that starting today. We are going to be having a week long christmas sale. Until next monday we will be offering Permanently Insane accounts for $35, and we will be offering 12 month Self-Committed[paid] accounts for only $15. Head over to the Insane Journal Store and buy yourself or a friend an upgraded account.

Thank you for supporting InsaneJournal and helping for this community to grow and flourish.
  • That's why I came here, because of you. You're up front with things, you let us know what's going on and you make those of us migrating here feel welcomed and acknowledged.

Thanks for making this a week long, I'm hoping to get either a Self-Committed or Perm account for Christmas, if possible.
  • Thanks for being so awesome, Squeaky! It's so nice to have a place where the rules are clear and the maintainer is responsive!
  • ACK, if I'd waited another week, I'd have saved 5.00.. or maybe not cause if I waited another week, the Demon Truck would have sucked that money up too}:P

Ah well.}:P It's money well spent, I say!
  • Thank YOU, Squeaky, for providing such an awesome service. I've been here since June and am totally happy with IJ, all I'm waiting for is the rest of my LJ friends to see the light and join us here. I bought a Permanent account months ago and don't regret it one bit.

I'm also curious; is there any place on the site I can see statistics for signups and site use over the past year? Is there anything publically accessible?
  • I migrated here in June from Livejournal, and I'm incredibly pleased with the service.

A lot of folks are worried their online communities will fall apart; I hope they realize that they are the communities, not Livejournal.

An example of how hideous LJ is: after the sale was announced, the founder, Brad, sneered at us, saying customer panic was going to be "fun to watch." And now 6A is throwing a party. *boggles*
  • After not being very happy with LJ for a while, I came over here to test the waters. I stayed here because of YOU, [info]squeaky.

The way you communicate with your users, you're upfront and open about what's going on, you're responsive to questions without being condescending or rude or just not saying anything at all... Those are just a few of the reasons why I took advantage of your Black Friday sale and purchased a permanent account for myself as well as buying time for a few friends who also migrated to IJ.

Thank you for providing and excellent service and for genuinely caring about us and how your site is run. You're greatly appreciated! :)
  • I have made getting my whole fandom over here my life's work.

I hope you want us. ;)
  • Thank You!
I'm really digging IJ and have been pimping the hell out of it to my friends.
  • Thanks Squeaky. As usual I was running all over the news post with my educational links and InsaneJournal icon :D I think I should go check if the newbydate stats are still on the raw stat page, it'd be interesting to see what those are like this time.
  • I just bought permanent IJ accounts for three of my LJ Friends so they can appreciate this place as much as we all do. :)
  • I think it's great that you take the time out of your day to personally reply to comments.
The people at LJ never do that, so it's great. :]

  • (hm, I got a style error, hope this doesn't double post.)

I want to be a complete convert, but there are still some things that I'm like, "well, LJ does them better." None of which have to do with handling customer problems ^_- but I mean technical things.

Do you (or whoever is your techie folk) update the codebase to reasonably keep pace with LJ's, continually work on bugs, etc.? Obviously you don't want to pick up the new "content flagging" business (do you have, like, branches from a trunk, like with Firefox? I've never quite got a good picture of how the open source development is for the Livejournal code and its clones), but, for example, post tracking has never worked for me on IJ. I don't get any notifications. A few friends on LJ have noted this as well. And I wondered if it's because it's never been worked out, or there's something else going on.

I don't think the main site scheme is as featureful and easy to use as what-all LJ has (take with grain of salt -- I hate Horizon and Vertigo and am still sticking with XColibur!), either, although that sort of thing (specific styles) may be proprietary and thus non-portable?

Also, I would really, really miss ScrapBook, which saves me so much trouble with uploading pictures to my own website so as to post them.

Anyway, it's like, I want to support, but my socks are not yet sufficiently thrilled from my person to make me go "yeah, yeah, I totally want to whip out my PayPal account for this." Yanno?
  • I bought two permanent accounts here in the Black Friday sale, figuring it was just a Good Idea. Then more nonsense happens "over there" (o/` ...until it's over over there... o/`) and tonight on IRC I mentioned the current mess there and the sale here. I get asked what the prices are here and give the answer. A few minutes later you have two more permanent account holders. Even those that aren't moving in just now want to at least reserve a space to move into.

  • IJ is like sitting in a cabin with a nice, cozy fire and hot cocoa on a rainy day. :) Thank you.
  • Honest and open = customer love

I have just taken advantage of the permanent account sale. Thank you for offering this to those of us who have gotten fed up with the "competition."

Another interesting thing I noticed is that you actually respond to comments! How refreshing! I find it heartening that a company will actually care enough about its customers to provide personal feedback.

I'm recommending my "competition" friends head over here to check things out. Thanks for having the good sense to recognize that we, as bloggers and customers, deserve better.
  • I have a question. A lot of LJers who want to move have decided to stay partially because IJ is...well...ugly. The giant smiley, the comment layout...they're detrimental to your business. Do you have any plans to upgrade to something more aesthetically pleasing?
  • Hi Squeaky!
Thanks for the new sale! I just upgraded to a permanent account and while I was at it bought another one for a dear friend. Here's to many happy years to come on IJ! (cause let's face it...I'm just not willing to send my money to the Russians over at the other place!).
  • I must say I just bought a Perm Account here and am very happy.

Although, I am wondering if IJ will soon give users the option of editing their comments? I know the OTHER PLACE is doing that, and right now, that's the only real upside they have....
  • With all the good things I've been hearing about IJ over yonder, plus $35 for a permanent account to sweeten the deal, it was irresistible as a gift to myself. :o) Happy holidays!
  • I see we have had another influx of new users here at InsaneJournal. It appears that a lot of you aren't very happy with the announcement over at our competition.

    Happy to be here :D
  • I was tempted to buy the Permanent account during the 5000 userpics sale, but had Christmas shopping to do. With all the stuff happening at that other site, I took the plunge and bought extra pics too! I hope you offer the 5000 pics again soon...maybe in the spring?! I'm going to Vegas in a month and I could afford the pics after that! Haha! Thanks for offering a great site and even better customer service and a better price!
  • I moved over here after the LJ boldthrough in August, and I quickly upgraded to a permanent account. And I just recently added extra permanent userpics. I was sorely tempted by the insane userpics, but had to decline (I'll probably snag it up the next time you offer it, though). I haven't been very active on IJ just yet, though I've been posting here, but with what's going on over at LJ now, I think I'm going to come make IJ my primary home. I just wanted to say thank you for being so open and honest and quick to respond. You've created an atmosphere of trust, and that is so much more valuable than lots of unnecessary features and craptastic service.

  • This is more like it. I'm disgusted by the sale at LJ and am heartily wishing I didn't have a perm. account there, what a kick in the face to their customers.

Been thinking about moving over here instead for a while; now I'm only wishing I'd done it sooner.
  • Dammit, I'm broke. YAY FOR INSANEJOURNAL! ♥
