Being from a different universe than all the rest of my friends is sometimes kind of a bitch here, considering my whole...deal and the fact that I've heard literally none of their voices before. Like...do you know how FRUSTRATING it is not to be able to hear your boyfriend's actual voice? Or your friends, who you only met here?
I've heard them now. I've heard HIM now, and fuck, but it's AMAZING.
I think this means I let the psychotic freak mind control me and didn't short out my brain, somehow. I remember BOTH events so clearly and it's weird, like they're layering over each other or something, but...
Okay, so the thing with my implants is that you get better at recognizing voices as time goes on, with the caveat that it works better for people you've known. I'm pretty good at being able to tell when Wade is talking, or Sebastian's saying something at the range, or hanging out at Tony's shop unless it's the entire gang and then things get confusing. School tends to hurt my head a lot, too. Like my brain doesn't read the signals for individuals very well since I'm not hearing in the traditional sense, but "hearing" through electrical stimulation and you all sound like robots. Not like Tony's AIs in my universe or even like hearing him filtered through the suit, but full on Lost in Space/Forbidden Planet/Wall-E level bullshit.
...Kind of hurts my head sometimes.
Anyway, point is. This week I've heard their voices for the first time. I can use a PHONE without a lot of fuss and chaos, and it's awesome. It's the thing I never thought I'd get to DO and lived with, since sort of hearing is way better to me than not hearing. I mean, everybody has to decide for themselves what they want to DO about hearing loss, and controversial when you get deeper in and I'm not qualified to speak on that since I wasn't born like this, and haven't had it very long, and I can't say what's best or not, I'm just this guy, and it's different for lots of people, and I'd sort of...accepted that alternative. It's not a cure-all, but it helps a TON.
I never thought I'd get to hear Wade talk to me in his own voice. (Or anybody else, but...hos before bros just this once, you know? Or lots of times when he's MY ho) Or to hear what Tony really sounds like when he's working on a project, or what a douche Strange really sounds like and how Steve sounds...totally unlike what my brain had sort of made up for him based on the guy I knew at home, or Cupid, who's apparently a normal dog, since I can't find his harness anywhere, barking to go out, or my favorite old song or...
I think I might've got the good end of this thing. We'll ignore the must have been mind controlled at home part because Strange checked and said there's nothing IN there, so...
I got lucky this time. I love it.
