Sometimes he felt so vulnerable. Like he'd die at any moment. Like he could just disappear. No, vulnerable wasn't the right word at all... unstable. That's what. Like an unstable element that only exists for a few seconds and then the electrons scatter and it's gone.
Axel wondered if that would happen to nobodies too, because they weren't meant to exist. They didn't exist naturally, like those elements. They were brought into being by strange experiments... couldn't it be said that they would disappear the same way?
Well, to be true to himself, he'd been told that if he met his somebody, it'd be much like antimatter meeting matter, only without a gigaton explosion. But they'd cancel each other out... and the stronger would be the survivor.
That's why he couldn't let Roxas go through with it. Granted, he knew it was more theory than anything else-- no one had seen this nobody/sombody meeting before, so how were they to know? He didn't want to risk it, though.
As far as he knew, they'd be invincible until nature caught on.
On a rooftop, eating customary bean buns and chatting, he raised the issue with Roxas, "I know you wanna leave... and find your somebody." he started. Roxas looked at the bun and remained silent. "Why not stay here with us... with me... and be immortal? Xemnas says we are, anyhow."
At this, Roxas glanced at Axel, frown on his face. He finished chewing his bite of bean bun and swallowed, then answered thoughtfully, "Axel...? What's the point of immortality if you can't feel?"
There was an awkward silence that stretched on for what seemed like hours but were only minutes. Roxas finished eating and got up, leaving the redhead behind to his thoughts.
He's right. Axel thought, There's no point. Somewhere deep in the back of his mind, he decided that if he was ever going to disappear, he'd do it for Roxas.
