I just wanted to see Roxas. He was the only one I liked.
The words hung in the air. It was dark and Axel couldn't see anything but pitch black all around him. Where was he? Was he... dead?
"So... this is the void..?" he said aloud, surprised that it felt so much like the sham of a life he'd left mere moments ago. "Anyone else here?" he called, hoping and dreading at the same time the possible answers. He waited.
Silence.
Then he saw something out of the corner of his eye, a light, and turned towards it. It was...
"Roxas!?" the redhead shouted, incredulous. The blond turned to look in his direction and smiled. A soft light filled the space.
"Axel." Even though Roxas was smiling, he looked so sad... like the world was going to end any moment now. Axel's face took on an expression of anxiety, dread, but he managed to get a smile on there, in return for the blond's.
"Where... where are we..?" he asked, curious in part as to why they were the only ones here if logic dictated that the others that had met their demise should also be here with him.
"I... did something... you're in Sora's heart. With me. But... it won't last long." Roxas explained. "He'll expell you sooner or later... but I heard you wanted to see me one last time, so..."
"Oh... Roxas..." Axel sighed, a tear sliding down his face. Roxas had done this, for him... he was heartbroken that it would be their very last... but at least... "You... I love you so much..." he admitted.
"I know. I love you too, Axel. I'm sorry that I didn't believe you back then."
"Psh, forget about it. We shouldn't waste our limited time thinking on that." He moved towards the blond, wrapping his arms loosely around his shoulders. "I've wanted to do that for a long time." he whispered into Roxas' ear. The blond shivered slightly, the feelings somewhat new. He felt Axel's breath on his ear, his warmth against his body. He even felt something connecting them... but he couldn't explain it.
Burying his face in Axel's robes, he broke down. He knew Axel would be gone for good soon, and he knew that he shouldn't waste the time by crying like a baby, but he couldn't help it. Being inside Sora's heart made every emotion run more intensely, and he knew Axel had to be experiencing this phenomena as well. Axel patted his back, trying to be as soothing as possible.
"I... I don't want to lose you..." the blond finally choked out. "I'll miss you too much, Axel..."
"Roxas... you can't keep me down. Maybe... there's another life out there for me... or maybe I'll find my somebody... like you did."
"But... isn't yours dead..?" Roxas sniffled.
"Probably, but you never know. Xemnas did lie to us an awful lot..." he tilted the blond's head beack and looked deeply into his eyes. "I..." he trailed off, giving in to everything, lips meeting in a soft, chaste union. He pulled back, only to hear Roxas make a sound of disapproval, pulling him back down for another kiss. Then, another... more kisses between them, each one getting more desperate and more needy.
Axel teased his tongue into Roxas' mouth, moaning quietly when he felt the younger kiss back. What was left of him was responding to the attention, and he wanted to let instincts take over... but he didn't. He pulled back from Roxas.
"Roxas... I wish we could. I really wish we could just live here, together in Sora's heart... but I'm sure he'll get tired of housing me as well and I'll be gone before you know it..."
"If you need to fall apart, well, I can mend a broken heart. If you need to crash, then crash and burn, you're not alone..." Roxas sang softly. Axel let the tears come once more, hugging close to the other boy.
"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry..." he said, over and over. He didn't want to leave him, but he had no choice. He felt himself losing substance, even here... "I'm... fading..." he whispered, placing one last kiss on Roxas' parted lips.
And he was gone. Roxas sank to his knees, hands gripping his head in emotional agony. He cried, and on the other side, Sora felt sadness overcome him and he didn't really know why.
