Rosalind had switched shifts with a colleague in order to be able to attend Madeline's bridal shower in the afternoon. She had dressed up in a light summer dress and wore her hair up in a loose bun. She hoped that Madeline was in better disposition toward her, and she was glad that Madeline was cheerful with her when they chat. She could read her well enough, though, to see that it was, at least in part, a façade, and they both kept the conversation to superficial topics. She enjoyed mingling with the other ladies there, chatting with everyone.
There would be no bridal shower for Rosalind - no time, and not enough guests to really make it worthwhile - and she did feel a little pang at the heart about it as she watched Madeline enjoy hers.
