STATUS: Complete log
Interviews were scheduled and tension was running high - or higher than usual in the DMLE, rather. Rosalind wasn't worried, as she didn't think that her cousin would fire her, but she didn't want to appear to be taking the process lightly either. She'd just offered comforting words to a nervous colleague and she wondered what decisions Rodolphus would take about the young man. She'd given information to her cousin, but she could not tell how he'd use it. She hoped it would prove useful to him. Shrugging it all away, she finished processing the evidence she'd collected on a scene earlier that morning. Sealing it all in its container, she filed the paperwork then headed down to the evidence room. As she walked down the corridor between the rows of cubicles, she saw Moody coming out of the room. Things weren't the same since they'd both found out their respective allegiances, but they both knew better than to show it in public, and so she nodded as she got closer and saluted him. "Good afternoon, Alastor." Moody had been very busy the past week or so since the DMLE interviews had been announced. He knew his position likely would take a great deal of heat and hoped deep down that some stroke of fate might allow him to save it. What was more likely in his mind would be that his decision to mouth off to Sirius fucking Black and the Minister's crazy wife would have a negative impact on his review. Maybe he was paranoid, but he knew that the Minister and Voldemort would never want to hear of him again except in a body bag. Walking with his nose buried in papers, Moody heard Rosalind call his name. Thinking quickly he straightened his shoulders and gazed up at her. "Ah hello, Rosalind. I trust your wedding preparations are progressing well." Mouthing off to Bellatrix certainly wasn't a good idea, but Rosalind would have been more immediately concerned about his current probation for being inebriated on the clock, if she were him. Which she gratefully wasn't, thank Merlin for small mercy. Smiling politely, though it did look sincere to anyone who didn't know her well, she answered him. "It does, yes, thank you. I'm lucky that my mother is taking care of most of it, as I don't have much time with all our work." She knew that he didn't care and he knew that she knew, but they still played the game. It was part of their roles, until one of them made a move and toppled the other over - which hopefully would come soon, with those interviews and the reshuffling."It's even busier this week with the interviews," she commented, curious what he'd say about them. "Well I suppose the Ministry knows best," Moody replied dogmatically even though he believed none of what he was spewing. "Likely they'll get rid of a few people here and there scattered throughout the departments and try to make this place more efficient. What with the war going on and all, it's not wise to have something slowing down the process of change." Minister Lestrange and all his goons were fucking idiots as far as Alastor was concerned. He knew that the lot of them could not hold down a managerial job anywhere but at the tainted Ministry. He could not believe he had been so mistaken about Rosalind's allegiances. Alastor had always been one to preach out against those who made broad brush stroke statements against people for being a member of a specific house. He'd used people like Rosalind on various occasions to prove that point. However, he had evidently been very deceived. "Very unfortunate events surrounding the Weasley family this week, wouldn't you say?" Rosalind nodded, looking appropriately sad at his mention of the attack on the Weasleys. "It is terrible, I can't imagine what the poor mother is going through, knowing that her son is at the mercy of someone like Greyback." While she had no qualms about killing bloodtraitors such as the Weasleys, Rosalind didn't have to fake to look upset, for she was disturbed by the event. She understood that they had to make an example of such bloodtraitors, but she'd have rather they kill the parents and save the children. They were pureblood children who might still be saved, if they had a proper education from a good family instilling the right values in them. Was it her upcoming wedding and the prospect of becoming a mother herself, in a future that didn't look as far as it used to now that she was engaged to Augustus, that mellowed her like this? She didn't know and it bothered her. She would never dare to protest against her Lord's orders, of course. She put her trust in Him for He knew what was to be done much better than she did. Alastor grimaced at the nightmarish image of Greyback running around terrorizing random segments of the English wizarding population. "Neither can I. Greyback is definitely a menace to our society. I believe all werewolves should be regulated heavier than they are now." Changing the subject to something safer career-wise, Moody inquired curiously, "I take it that you and Augustus have known each other for quite some time." Rosalind raised an eyebrow at Alastor's comment. "The law has been strengthened very recently, I'm not sure what more could have been done. Those werewolves, like Fenrir, refuse to register and they hide from the Ministry. What we would need to round them up is more people in the Werewolf Capture Unit, and even then it would still prove difficult." Especially as the Dark Lord protected them, she silently added. His change of topic was abrupt and she would have smirked at her - not for much longer, hopefully - boss's lack of subtlety if she'd allowed herself to. She had to keep the façade though, and so she refrained from it as she answered him. "He's an old family friend, so I have known him most of my life, but we grew closer over the last few months. We kept it quiet as neither of us wanted to become gossip fodder. Rumours spread through the Ministry so fast, after all." Moody nodded at her mention of the need for increased staffing in the WCU. "You are probably right." Of course, it would be easier if that prick Voldemort would stop recruiting these fucking werewolves, vampires, banshees, and hags that the Order had learned of in the aftermath of the attack on the Burrow. Must be nice to have so much power that one could go overkill and just drop the world into a chaotic mess which would allow Golden Boy Lestrange to save the day like the devoted civil servant he was. Not! Looking at Rosalind when she mentioned the infamous Ministry rumour mill which Alastor especially despised, he remembered how quickly the whole bloody Ministry had learned of the divorce. "It's unfortunate the speed everyone learns news even if the revealed information is not completely correct." Glancing up at the nearest clock, he explained not disappointedly, "Rufus & I have a meeting shortly that I simply cannot miss. Have a pleasant rest of your day." "Same to you, Alastor," Rosalind said, watching him walk away for a few seconds before going in the evidence room where she'd been heading before running into the Head of Aurors. There was work to do. |
