Answers : Geoffrey Nott 1. Please state your full name and occupation. My name is Geoffrey Theseus Nott, and I am Chief Investigator of the Hitwizard Squad of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement.
2. Please state your birthdate and age. The twenty-forth of August, 1929. I am currently fifty-one years old.
3. Where do you currently reside? I live at my family estate outside of Dover, between Dover and Swingate, to be exact.
4. How long have you been working within the DMLE? I have been working within the DMLE since the summer of my graduation in 1947.
5. Why did you originally apply to be an Auror/Hitwizard? Do those convictions still hold true? A sense of civic duty to society and our way of life seemed like a noble and dignified way to make a living, and the best thing I could do for our way of life. Without an organized army to protect our wizarding society, I believe law enforcement is vitally important. I of course still believe this, to keep order and civilization prosper, and bring these values to every day I walk into these doors.
6. Are you or have you previously been affiliated with organizations outside of the Ministry of Magic? No. The Ministry is what we all answer to as citizens.
7. What do you feel is not being done by the DMLE to put an end to the current state of war? Please answer honestly. Not enough, to be perfectly frank. I believe we must work closely with the lawmakers, collaborate to ensure that rules and order are followed, that we as law enforcement have the upper hand in this state of war. We need tighter security, to ensure no further jail break-ins or break-outs. I believe our Auror squad being handed over every criminal act once it relates to dark wizardry is. . .not an effective method in fighting this war. Obviously anyone can tell the Auror's coverage is thin, and perhaps the separation between the two ranks of hitwizard and Aurors is a reason.
8. Conversely, what do you feel is being done by the DMLE to successfully put an end to the current state of war? Obviously very little. I believe the Auror squad is as effective as they can be, but could do with a little bit more help - obviously. I'm not sure how to answer this, Minister, I think I gave a rather good answer in the previous question.
9. Do you have faith in the government's promise to put an end to terrorism in the United Kingdom? Why or why not? I do have faith. It's the reason for government, after all.
10. Finally, please briefly describe for us your typical workday routine. I come to work every morning at 7:30 AM, promptly. I check my overnight post or new assignments, go to my desk, and look through which cases I am currently involved in. As an investigator, I pass which cases go to the Aurors and which ones stay here, as well as comb crime scenes for information other hitwizards may have missed. I work on paperwork, the bureaucratic bit of the job, until lunch where I only take thirty minutes. After lunch I either return to paperwork, look over crime scene evidence, or go to the scene when they call me. I make sure the scene hasn't been tampered with - after all, my job is to be thorough when others are not, see details others have missed. Typically scene oversight lasts until around six o'clock in the evening, and I then must fill more paperwork, especially if I am passing on a case. This can take up to two hours sometimes, depending on what else we found and what other evidence we must submit, or even which cases we are handing over.
