Hestia had broken down in tears as soon as she got home, and once she had recovered, she explained to her mother why she was so very upset. The two of them had cried together for a while before Hestia had the sense to mention that they had to go to St. Mungo's. Hand in hand, mother and daughter waited until they were called in to identify the body. Eloise gave her daughter the opportunity to sit and wait, but Hestia couldn't let her mother go through this alone.
It hadn't hit her how very real it was until she saw his lifeless form. The last she saw, her mother was filling out paperwork. Hestia hadn't been able to just sit there. Whose brilliant idea was it for grieving family to fill out paperwork when he'd only been dead less than a day? She'd merely kissed her mother on the cheek, trying not to recall how similar it was to when she kissed her father goodbye after lunch, and told her that she was going to get some tea.
Truth be told, Hestia hardly drank a sip of her tea. She sat at one of the little tables in the tearoom, playing with the cup, swirling it around. Everything hurt, and at the same time, she was numb. How had she gone from smiling and laughing this afternoon, to this? At least Tilly was on her way. And she didn't have to explain what had happened. Mr. Williamson had probably notified the others, or... it didn't matter. She took a sip of tea. It was already cold.
