Alice reached an arm out, consoling her friend. A silent tear fell from her eyes. She knew exactly what Lily was feeling, what she was going through, and she'd been doing this longer. She'd been fighting the bad guys for nearly six years, not including the three years of Auror training. She and Frank hadn't been trying for a child. They'd both agreed when they got married that raising a child was one of the last things they wanted to do during a war.
"I know," she whispered. Raising a child didn't scare her. She had five younger siblings, and she knew how to care for little ones. "I'm nearly twenty-seven and I'm terrified," she admitted. "It--I'm so scared something's going to happen, that Frank or I--or, God, even both of us--won't be around to..." She trailed off, unable to finish voicing the thought. It wasn't really a low-risk career she'd gotten herself into, and that notion hadn't bothered her until she'd found out she was pregnant.
