Alice nodded, taking in everything the rest were saying. She was the only person present who was inside the Ministry, so she was seriously contemplating how each of their ideas might conceivably be carried out, and if they were worth it. People knew about the Order, but the members remained, for the most part, secret. They had to continue working that way.
"Oh, I'm sure he's got men at the Ministry, but they're covering their tracks." Alice had been certain of that for a while, now. After all, Dumbledore had three Aurors on his side. Voldemort had to have infiltrated the Ministry as well. "I think if he had Wilde under control, he wouldn't be stepping down. It would be too suspicious if he changed his mind now. And I don't see You-Know-Who getting control of Bagnold, but we ought to keep an eye on her. In case he makes her a target."
She contemplated Fabian's idea. She never really liked Crouch, especially since he authorized use of the Unforgivables once he took control of the MLE. And she could understand, strategically, why he would be a prime target for control. "I don't know. I'd like to think we'd know it if he got hold of Crouch." Alice shook her head. "But the MLE would be the most useful department to get control of. If he could manage it..." Alice shuddered at the thought. It would be madness, and she couldn't state for a fact which Aurors they could count on to stay on their side. The Order would have to go public if that happened.
"So, we should focus on the more likely possibilities. I hate leaving openings, but there's only so much we can do."
