Edgar, when he thought really hard about it, could remember his life before having children. Not that he would trade either of his babies for anything in the world, but there were days (like today) when he missed the way life was when he and Calypso first got married. When he could wake up and slide his arms around her, and they could stay in bed for hours in the morning, long before a certain three year old had taken to waking them up every morning by squealing loudly and dive-bombing their bed. And lately, it just felt like they hadn't had much time for one another, period. Between the children and Edgar's research for the Order, the majority of time they had together, one on one, was spent asleep.
Sitting around the table that afternoon, feeding Penelope some kind of mixed vegetable baby food that smelled mostly like yams, Edgar looked at Calypso at realized with a sad feeling in the pit of his stomach that he missed her. They were in the same room, not four feet away from one another, and he missed her.
So he'd owled his mum.
She'd been more than happy to take the kids for the night. Before she came over to get them, Edgar dug a bottle of wine out of the cellar and put it on charmed ice in their bedroom (along with two glasses), which he'd cleaned and tidied. He took the kids outside in the afternoon so that Calypso could have some alone time to write. His mum had come over and gotten the kids then (he'd already packed them overnight bags). He'd snuck inside quietly, taken his journal upstairs and silenced the shower while he cleaned up.
Calypso had been asleep on the sofa when he went back downstairs to get her. Struck by an idea, he set her journal open on the coffee table with a note stuck to it that read, "Hello, beautiful." On the banister, he stuck, "I've missed you." Upstairs, on their bedroom door, he stuck "I love you." Edgar knew she'd come to soon, so he took the time to write an update list of suspected Death Eaters in his journal for the Order, along with a private note to Calypso.
