Where: Danny's flat
What: Danny has a question for Ally
Rating: Strong PG-13
Status: Complete.
The smell of sex hung in the air, and their naked bodies glistened with sweat. Alecto was very comfortable with her head nuzzled in the crook of Danny’s neck, with her arm draped lazily around his body. This was unusual behavior for both of them: they were Death Eaters, they didn’t cuddle. But tonight had been different. The sex was still amazing of course, but much more emotionally charged than it had ever been before. Perhaps it was because the past month had been quite an emotional roller coaster for both of them. Or perhaps it was because they were actually starting to develop real feelings for each other. That thought usually scared Alecto, but at this particular moment it didn't.
Instead, she began reflecting on their evening together. The wedding was the first date they’d been on since they were at Hogwarts. It had all started off harmless, with perhaps a few sidelong glances and a flippant comment or two from each of them about getting the other out of their respective outfits. Nothing out of the ordinary. Of course, they indulged themselves with a dance or two, but towards the end of the night, during a particularly slow song, Danny had reached down and kissed her on the dance floor. It began innocently, not a snog, but within that kiss contained a passion she had never felt before. Suddenly his hand was on her cheek, and she was melting into him, eyes closed and completely ignorant to everyone around her. When he broke away, she put a hand to his chest and whispered, "Take me home." Flushed goodbyes quickly followed in a half-hearted attempt to keep up appearances. They wound up apparating directly to the bedroom and took their time with each other. Each touch was if they were worshiping the other. Alecto was still stunned by the whole experience, but she contented herself in the present moment with just being next to him.
It was like nothing he had ever felt emotionally or physically. For once, his mind was at ease and his body was more than satisfied. A void had been filled tonight and it started with a simple a kiss. Something had overcome him while he was with Ally on that dance floor and without giving it a second thought, he pressed his lips to hers. It was unlike any kiss he had ever given -- not even to her. The action was nothing more than a gentle kiss filled with an intense emotion that he could no longer suppress. He knew that she was well aware of it and before he could blink they were in his bedroom.
The room was dark except for the gentle haze of the moon's light shining through his bedroom window. It wasn't much, but it was enough. A calming quiet had fallen over them and there was barely a sound other than their still slightly hitched breathing and the heavy beats of his heart still pounding in his chest. Danny stared up into the pitch darkness of the ceiling, his mind replaying what had just transpired here. Everything was different this time -- the way that he touched and kissed her body, taking great care not miss an inch of it, treating it like the delicate treasure that it was. Every little detail had become important; from the way that held her, the way he laid her down onto his bed, to how he eased himself on top of her. It had moved nice, slow and sensual heightening his senses two-fold for the first time in this situation. This was the way it ought to have been from the very start with them. Nothing else mattered to him at that very moment except for her. Now he was lying next to her, his well toned arm lightly wrapped around her as he gently trickled the tips of his fingers up and down her spine just between her shoulder blades while his other hand laid on top of hers. He had always wanted to feel this close to Alecto, he hated it when she would stay for maybe two nights and then leave. Having her around seemed to ease his mind and made him comfortable. If she had belonged to him then he could feel like this all the time. Feelings that he had rarely felt before were gradually coming about and something about today had made him well aware of what he was going on his head. Inwardly he finally realized what he wanted, what he needed and all this time the answer was next to him. The rush of emotion was still evident in this moment, the sudden explosion and revelation had not subsided even as he lay here next to her. Surely everything would have faded after the hours they had spent together tonight, but they hadn't. His mind was racing and suddenly the solution came to the forefront of his mind. "Marry me," he blurted out without warning as a twinge of excitement erupted within the pit of his stomach.
Alecto was smiling as she continued to enjoy this moment. Everything was perfect. And no matter how many times they'd been in this position, they'd never really been this close. Her heart was pounding in her chest and her mind was reeling. Sex was always something she enjoyed, and she had been with a number of lovers who gave her mindblowing orgasms. But the young woman had never experienced anything like this. Suddenly it hit her, they had just made love. Her eyes widened and a small smile crossed her lips. Of course, it was with Danny; it had always been Danny. The only man she had returned to time and time again. She was just turning her face to meet his, to kiss him deeply when she heard the two words that she had never expected to hear in her life. Everything stopped in that moment, including her heart.
"What?" she asked abruptly. Alecto sat up quickly, and turned fully around to face him, not bothering to cover herself up. Her head cocked to the side, and she looked at him, as if not comprehending. After a moment her brow unfurrowed, and she gave him a playful slap on the chest. Of course he wasn't serious. It was cute of him, though. "Danny, don't be silly," she said with a smile and a flip of her hair before she returned to her previous position at his side.
Of the many women he had bed over the years, he never felt this way about any particular one. All women were amazing to him, the way they looked, how the smelled so good, the way their bodies felt underneath or on top of his. He had an appreciation and a wild appetite for the female anatomy -- he did not discriminate. But time and time again, it had always been Ally that he went back to. She, above all others, was the one he longed for the most and tonight he proved it (or so he thought) by doing something he'd never done to a woman before -- he made love to her.
Danny turned his head to look at Ally as she sat up, he was not smiling. If anything, he had quite the serious look on his face. "Oi!" He let out when she slapped him playfully on the chest and was about to sit up himself when she settled back down into him. His returned his gaze to the ceiling once again, his eyes darting back and forth as he thought about what was just said. It was apparent to him that one day he would marry and need to produce a pureblood heir to his name. What he never believed was that it would be under his circumstances. However, Ally seemed to dash those plans with her answer. He furrowed his brow and was suddenly a bit upset by her reaction. For the first time, he had left himself open to a woman and he was immediately knocked down. "I'm not," he said sounding somewhat offended as he pushed himself up and looked down at her. "I'm serious, Alecto," he insisted, the lack of humor and the sincerity was evident in his eyes and in his tone. "I want to marry you."
Alecto had been imagining that he would let out a laugh himself, kiss the top of her head, and settle down for sleep. What she had not expected was for him to look at her like that and tell her he was serious. The smile faded from her face and she stared at him, gobsmacked. Marriage was never in her life plans. Of course, she knew it was expected of her, to marry someone and have a slew of pureblood babies, but she never really saw it happening. At least not with someone of her choosing. As a tier three woman, her choices were limited. So she had chosen to become a soldier instead, and in the back of her mind she always thought she'd die before she'd have to sacrifice her life and body to some man she would never love. But now, it was Danny. Danny who could have any woman, asking her. Her heart began pounding even harder, and part of her mind screamed for her to say yes. But another part, the coldly logical part, was telling her that she couldn't, that she wouldn't make a good wife.
"I.... you can't marry me, Danny!" she said, with a tone of exasperation. If only they could just go back to the sweet aftermath just a few seconds ago. "I'm not.... I won't make a good wife."
Danny could have any woman he chose or any woman his parents chose. Regardless of that, he wanted Ally. He never obeyed every unwritten rule set forth by pureblood society. What difference would it make if the woman he chose was tier three or tier one? All that truly mattered was that her blood was pure and her ideals were that of his own. Ally had somehow gained this hold over him -- over the years she slowly took over every part of him. He inhaled her at first and she gradually got into his bloodstream and before long he could feel her floating in him. She had rendered him weak, but he would never tell her that. Now however, he felt her slipping away and he was not going to let her go.
"I can't marry you?!" He shot back, slightly annoyed at her latest response. "Because you won't make a good wife?! Who says?!" He would not settle for such a lame excuse.
Alecto bristled at his annoyance. "No, you can't!" she said, as she sat up completely, covering herself with the bedsheet. Her tone had grown more desperate at this point. She needed him to understand that this was for his own good. "Not someone like me! I have nothing to offer... I have no money, no status, I'm not even respected within the ranks!" Merlin, the ranks. Danny was already in enough trouble. Of course she was too, but she had no aspirations for inner circle. Alecto was content being a soldier, a simple assassin for the Dark Lord. However, she knew of his desires to rise in the ranks. No, marrying her might jepordize his ambitions. "You will be laughed at, Danny. They would all think you lost your damn mind, which now that I think about it, you might have. Besides, I never thought to marry, you know that!"
"If I was looking for money, status and respect within the ranks, I would have taken it up the arse from one of the blokes!" Danny countered, anger slowly taking over. The mere thought of doing such a thing made him shudder where he sat -- for once he felt dirty. Shaking his head suddenly, he returned to the issue at hand. "You think I've lost my damn mind?!" The volume of his voice was steadily increasing. "I'm telling you I want to marry you and you think I've lost my fucking mind!" He was almost yelling at this point. He suddenly flung the covers off of him and sat on the edge of his side of the bed. For a few moments he sat there, elbows resting on his knees as he stared at the floor. Was this what rejection felt like? "You never thought to marry... Not even me?" He asked in a very soft tone. Before he got up, he snatched his shorts from the floor and pulled them on. He stood up from the bed and began to pace the room back and forth. "Let that be my problem!" He said in regards to being laughed at and wondering what others would think, his tone elevated once again.
In all honesty, if Alecto had a choice, she would've picked him. But she never did have a choice when it came to pureblood society. She gathered the sheets up to her chest, wrapping them fully around her body. She sat there, just watching him, not having a good answer to any of his objections. While he yelled, she smoothed out the wrinkles in the sheets, not wanting to look him in the eye. His tone softened for a minute, as he sat on the edge of the bed. If only he could understand...
"No.... I just didn't think it would happen," she said with a shrug. "Amycus and I always used to joke about living fast and dying young. You know, before we were forced into marrying someone we hated. And you! No, I never thought...." she trailed off, unable to put what she really meant in words. Danny needed someone who would be a wife, not a fellow fighter.
Suddenly, Danny started yelling again. Alecto finally shouted, "No! I will not let that be your problem. You want Inner Circle! You'll never get that if you marry me." With a shake of her head, she added in a softer tone, "I'm sorry, but I won't drag you down." The words, 'I care too much about you' were on the tip of her tongue, but they remained unsaid. Instead she desperately wanted to go back to the bliss she had felt after they made love. Not fighting again. Alecto extended her hand out to him. "Now please come lay back down...."
Danny had stopped pacing and was now standing at the foot of the bed looking at her, his eyes locked on hers. He wanted to make an honest woman out of her and make her his own, but she was denying him that. She was denying them. There were so many things that were meant for him -- a high society, obedient wife who took pleasure in providing him with heirs, staying home in their lavish estate to take care of the children and would give herself to him whenever he so wished while he risked his life to clean up the filth that had made it's mark upon the wizarding world. This was not what he wanted. As he stood there looking at her, he wanted her more.
It was late. He was tired and it showed. "Marrying you will not dictate whether or not I become Inner Circle, Alecto..." he trailed off, but in a rather stern tone. "What I do and how well I do it will determine that!" He added, speaking slightly louder once again as he gently pounded his chest with the palm of his hand. With a heavy sigh his eyes shifted down to look at her hand that was held out to him. After a few moments, he reached out to take a hold of it within his own. As he slowly thumbed the back of it he realized that something was missing. A ring. He would need to buy a ring.
As he stood there holding her hand he inwardly debated if he should stay or not. He did have a spare bedroom and he wasn't sure that he could lie next to Ally tonight knowing that she had refused his marriage proposal. It was an improper marriage proposal, but a proposal nonetheless. Reluctantly he let go of her hand and rounded the bed to his side then crawled back in. He let himself fall onto his back, dropping one hand onto his stomach while he tucked the other under his head. Without another word he laid there staring up into the pitch black ceiling just as he was not long before all of this happened.
A sigh of relief escaped her lips when he took her hand and came back to bed. She wanted more than anything to curl up next to him, but she held back. Instead she rolled over onto her stomach, tucking her arms under the pillow. A mumbled "goodnight," escaped her lips as she settled down in the bed. She was exhausted and still in shock over all this; Danny had come out of left field with his question. It wasn't that she didn't want him, she just didn't deserve him. She needed to get some sleep and push all these thoughts out of her head. But sleep didn't come for Alecto. While she didn't move or make a sound for the rest of the night, she certainly wasn't sleeping. Instead she stayed awake for most of the night, terrified that she just made the worst mistake of her life.
