LESTRANGE OFFICIALLY MINISTER OF MAGIC
Lorean De Norse - DP London
LONDON – This morning's inauguration of Rodolphus Lestrange went smoothly, despite the current climate of uncertainty facing Lestrange's appointment to Minister. The swift and professional ceremony began with a speech from Wilde, followed by the ceremonial passing of the torch, and wrapped up with what was clearly the awaited event: a speech by Lestrange.
Attendees had mixed reviews about the speech Lestrange made, which focussed on his intentions to "rebuild the ministry as a strong, powerful and dependable institution" and his dedication to "preserving the noble history of wizarding culture", and also included his cabinet announcement. Among the guests was his wife, Bellatrix Lestrange. Though she was unavailable for comment, socialite Narcissa Black had much to say.
"I for one am both reassured and emboldened by the fact that our new Minister cherishes the society I hold so dear as much as I do," said Black of Lestrange, who is her cousin by marriage. "I have faith that under his leadership, the whole wizarding community will flourish as we move together into a steadily brightening future."
When questioned on his lack of experience, Lestrange had the following to say:
"My diplomatic ventures have helped to prepare me for necessary exchanges with foreign ministries, and have given me insight into the different ways they govern," Lestrange said. "They have inspired me to take our Ministry of Magic in a new direction, one that will bring our country into a new, shining era."
In regards to the recent inundation of owls from witches and wizards across the country declaring their candidacy as running Minister of Magic (which continued even following the inauguration), Senior Undersecretary to the Minister, Lyle Marchwood, commented, "A number of unqualified applicants, many of whom are barely even of age, are not going to delay such an important event. Of course the inauguration continued as scheduled."
