Daphne was still smirking when something totally unexpected happened. She wasn’t ready for Harriet’s totally unexpected response. She sputtered and spit out pumpkin juice as it dripped from her hair and face.
Wiping the juice from her eyes, she discovered Potter was gone when she finally could see clearly. It hadn’t been expected, but that didn’t mean it didn’t work out for the best. Turning back towards the Cheer Squad, Daphne saw her friends glaring evilly in the direction she suspected Harriet had gone off in. Potter’s friends were laughing and cheering. Either way, no one suspected a thing. Perfect.
Drawing her wand, she incanted, “Scourgify.” She was clean and the remnants of the juice was gone. She went back to the practice and acted like she had landed an insult so good that Potter’s response was the best she could come up with.
Once practice was over, Daphne made her way to the locker room and changed and showered. All the girls showering, giggling and walking around in various states of undress was distracting. But, all that tension only made her more resolute on her true target.
Daphne had been watching Harriet for days, trying to figure out her routine. Of course, she didn’t have it down pat, but she could spy without getting caught. Though it was easier because Potter wasn’t the only one in the castle with an invisibility cloak. Little did she know that Harriet had one too; Daphne thought she had the only one owned by a student in the castle.
In a fresh uniform, Daphne had Prefect Rounds that night, she sat by Gryffindor tower under her cloak after dinner. Shorty before lights out, she saw Harriet leave with her kit. She suspected she was headed to the Prefect’s Bathroom.
Hobbled by her injury, it wasn’t hard for Daphne to beat Harriet to the loo. Stepping inside, she hid her cloak and waited with her back to the wall. Leaving the door unlocked, she tried not to be too anxious as she awaited Potter’s arrival hoping she had guessed her location correctly.
